New gearbox but no sign of 5th and reverse?

Hi i just replaced the gearbox on my glanza s and there is no sign of fifth and reverse literally no movement at all from the shifter at all. It has a short shifter which is very stiff and uneasy but still had all the gears prior to the gearbox change. Can anyone shine some light on this issue please thanks.

or the selector fork for 5th is jammed in tha box ??

What car did the box come from ? Some jap EP82 N/a had a 4 speed box.

Take the cables off the box and try select gears using the selector on top of the gearbox. If you can get all 5 & R then your problem is either the cables or the shifter.

The gearbox is off a 1998 corolla 1.3gs e11 model, thanks daniel_g i'll try that.

It can't be a 4pot as it doesn't even have reverse! it'll be something with the shifter etc but we shall wait and see.

Did you use the brakets/arms from the corolla box or did you swap them for your starlet ones?

One of my boxes had different arms so the length of the throws would have been different. If it was too long it might not allow the shifter to go over far enough to allow it in 5th or reverse.

ha a corrola box then the bracket that bolts to the box where the cables atatsh to with the clips kneads swapping over to the starlet 1 there diferent lenght

Still not having any luck with gearbox i've swapped the brackets over, all the gears are there manually its when you attach the linkages to the bracket. The shifter gets really stiff and losses 5th and reverse...SOMEONE HELP!!!!!

Would i need to change the shifter cables?
