I was looking for an Irish reg car due to just moving back from the UK.

After a lot of looking i decided i wanted to get back into a toyota but i had plans and didnt want to have complications at nct time so i decided on a pre-93 toyota.

It had to be either a Corolla or a Starlet.

Fate had it, that i came across this beaut thanks to Richie the Dublin rep ;)

54K miles and off the road since 1999 1.0 3 door Starlet.

The engine wasnt running at the time so BimotoMan a fellow Mod and good friend offered me two things.

One, to tow it the 150 miles back to my house! LEDGEND!

Two, to sell me a conversion loom and 4efe engine.

I had to have it and a deal was struck!

Cleaned up the engine and painted it.

Then i got the 1.0 running. the issue was with timing. I really didnt like it after a spin around the estate to i took it out a few days later! Thanks to QuinnyGT for organising an engine crane for me to borrow!!

I had to change the mount from the 1E onto the 4E as the 4E came from a corolla.

I also changed the water pump as the 1E pump was brand new and must have been changed during its last service before storage.

A 4efte flywheel and clutch where used along with the original 4 speed box.

Unfortunately as i left the rocker on while fitting the engine i damaged the paint on it with the rope and chain.

I then drained and renewed all fluids, fitted the loom and wired up the fuel pump.

Due to the starlet not having a fuel return pipe i had to run a new one myself.

On the fuel rail the fuel pipe had been cut close to the clamped end so i cut it all off and one of the lads flared it for me.

It was then time to get started her up. all be it only for 3/4 seconds due to the manifold dumping to atmosphere.

This got me excited and i started planning things that i shall not yet reveal :)

I bought a set of STR Pro N1's, a set of TRD shocks and springs and some 4wd rear lights.

Back lights only have a subtle difference but i like them :)

Then came time to modify the exhaust to fit. After a few calls to people with welders i decided to buy my own.

Its a Rhyas 135 gas mig welder. cant really weld anything over 3.5/4mm but its perfect what what i needed it for.

Then, disaster. I did a half a mile return drive just to see how it was going after getting the exhaust sorted.

It was missing a bit and when i got back and checked the fluids it was obvious the head gasket was gone. To be sure i got a compression tester and the results confirmed my fears.

THANKFULLY! Sham had advised me at the start that he did not know the state of the engine but had been reassured it was in good condition by the buyer. (this was originally a backup for his bimoto) When i let him know he immediately gave me a few options to rectify the situation.

I ended up receiving another 4efe which he had driven and knew was good in return for the other engine.

Very good business man :)

I had also sold my 15" str's and bought another set of wheels.

Sham brought the 4efe down along with the wheels which Richie had picked up for me in Dublin :)

(you can tell im lucky to have good friends already right? :p)

I took the 1st 4e out.

DIY'd a solid engine mount while i had a short break. (it was a full day and a half before i fitted it and it was solid)

Im not happy with how the exhaust turned out first time and Sham brought me the downpipe of the corolla!

So im going to retry that in the morning!

Back on its original steelies since i sold the STR's

Then threw on the wheels for a look!!

They are Mangels racing steels. 13x7 et25 on 175/50/13 tyres.

Should I get coilovers, bigger tyres or do I get bigger wheels?

Exhaust welded and bung added for AEM Wideband.

Finished putting loom in and put battery in to try and start her... Nothing!!

After investigation the engine isn't getting fuel and I have the fuel pump wired directly to the ignition.

Tested the pump directly to the battery and I was greeted with sparks galore. Anyone got another pump??

Got one!!! :D

19/05/14:

So, ive sold the Mangels. They where too small in the end.. i did all the measurements and i didnt want to have to buy new tyres and coilovers to make them look right.

I got cash + parts and a set of wheels with new tyres. Currently looks like this but these will be going for sale once cleaned up.

08/06/14:

I made up a short shifter from the starlet shifter. Nice and short but not crazy either. Also tilted the top slightly to the left to suit my driving position as well :)

Didn't take any pics tbh as I forgot :/

Next, I have obtained a 20v mani and downpipe of David (orange ae111) and have started cutting the flange from a 4efe manifold so I can attach the 20v mani of it.

The inside pipe positions are perfect but the outer pipes need to be brought in about 15mm each which can be done with a bit of heat.

So far I have cleaned up only one port but as you can see from the pics once the original pipe has been removed the 4efe flange port matches the size of the 20v piping so of I open then up a couple of mm with my dremel they should fit perfectly!

Jack Kelly turned up as well with a few parts for me so I got distracted and stopped :)

Here are pics:

I welded a piece into the centre to keep the separate flanges straight but I will be spot welding the piping while the flange is bolted to a block just for safety

ITB's :p

I need to strip the stuff off them that i wont need like the fuel rail and give them a good clean.

I have ordered some reducer silicone bends from Jammar.ie and they should be here next week! Hopefully.. ill have them fitted in time for the big meet :)
