blutto
Well, at least I've been told by Toyota that it's an 81 officially. Bought this through a friend for £200, and was probably going to end up on the scraphead. It is a 1.3 fuel-injected 2E-E. Been in the same family since new, four owners (grandad, grandma, mother, and son). Mileage is only 47 thousand miles, and other than damage to the front left corner, is absolutely mint. When I first got it home, I had originally looked at it when it was wet and raining at night, damage to the front looked worse than I remembered. Bumper had been pushed into the metal box section and sliced into it, headlight looked fine, but the rear had caved in and smashed the reflector. Indicator was smashed from what turned out to be a different impact, which had also creased the left wing. Ended up buying a new bumper, bumper support bar, headlight, indicator and wing all from Toyota. No pictures of this lot though. Stripped everything off and set about cleaning the engine bay which looked filthy, but in fact because it had been coated in general oil and road grime, cleaned up pretty well apart from the rocker cover. Took that back to bare metal and re-painted it black, managing to save the original decal. It failed its first MOT, but all it needed was a new track rod end and a CV joint. Getting off the CV joint was a pain in the behind as the circlip was knackered. We eventually got it sorted thanks to an angle grinder and got a new one fitted. Passed the retest no issues. It was obvious that the bonnet had been resprayed at some point as it was a completely different shade of red, the same went for the drive side rear arch. But the rest T-cutted ok apart from some touched up places (parking scratches). It was garaged but I think the old lady had ricocheted it in to park it(!) lol With the above paint damage and the new wing and bumper, I decided to send it in to get the parts sprayed and lower section of the car resprayed. I was told that the tailgate and roof would machine polish up and blend in. I had also gotten this spoiler off ebay which isn't as big as a GT spoiler and suited it better. So at the moment, it's ready to be picked up in the morning, at which point I can fit the GT rear lights I got off Socks. Only doing this as one of the rear lights was cracked and resembled an aquarium. I always liked the look of them too. Was still on original steelies and tatty wheel trims, but I'm awaiting a package from Ireland! In the meantime it's rolling on bluebear's winter Rotas.
Dylanfarrell
Always wondered how my car would look with coded bumpers and strips. It's a good look. What sort of plans have you for it going forward??
blutto
I think the next job will be to get some new shocks and springs and drop it a bit about 30/35 mm, thinking of keeping reasonably OEM may even keep the original head unit, dig out all my old cassettes lol. Will get some more pics up when I get her home tomorrow hopefully looking mint.

Keep it OEM or OEM+ and use a few nice aesthetic mods to improve the look

Bluebear
Popped round this evening to see this (and was greeted with a plate of food!)Three quick pics, Dad'll be getting more in due course I have no doubt. It is looking absolutely mint at the moment, can't fault the paintjob at all. Can't even tell where the new paint begins tbh. Roof and tailgate have come up really well from a good polish. And here is a pic of the spoiler Dad got off ebay, I think it was from Greece. Looks decent! blutto
Not given an update for ages but as some of you know got the car down to JAE and came away with some silver ware, I'll take this opportunity to thank all those who voted and also thank everyone for the warm welcome and those that commented on the forum. Nothing been done on the Starlet since then but a bit of bad news as Kath was rear ended last week, first of all Kath was not seriously hurt but is suffering from all the usual whiplash injuries, the car didn't fair too well and has creases to the boot floor and will need a new bumper, we are waiting at the moment for a decision as to whether they are going to write it off or not, keeping fingers crossed. Rock-Kick-Ass
sorry to hear. such lovely car, and hope kath is on the mend, whiplash is a fecker of a thing if the car does get writing off, by all means put steelies on it and say the v-speeds
blutto
Well, pleased to say that the Starlet wasn't written off and £1200 later is now back home as good as new apart from a slight tailgate alignment issue which I sorted. Turns out the poor old girl had had quite a clout and once work was started another meeting was required as to whether to repair it or not, but after a bit of pulling and stretching on a jig, she's now back on the drive If we get a glimmer of sunlight this w/e I will get some pics up. Must also add that Kath isn't as good as new yet but getting there.
