robwob88
Hi guys. Just in the process of swapping my engine and gearbox and was wondering what's the best oil to use for gearbox/lsd? I'm assuming the diff uses different oil to what the gearbox takes. What does everybody else use/recommend?
robwob88
If it makes any difference, the diff is a cusco unit and will be used for mainly fast road with the odd track day.
JayJ
You will need to use gearbox oil with lsd additive, not diff oil, because it's a FF car and you will ruin the synchros otherwise.
robwob88
OK. That makes sense. Wasn't sure if the diff needed it's own oil. Which oil would be best? Semi or fully synthetic? Also which grade?
oilman
Hi I don't think the Cusco diffs need a mineral oil, but is there anything with it stating that it must use mineral oil? If not, a 75w-90 LS oil, like the Motul Gear 300LS, Gulf Competition LS, Millers CRX NT LS or Red Line 75w-90 GL5 will be fine. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-970-limited-slip-diff.aspx Cheers Tim
robwob88
OK...next question. How much oil does it take?
oilman
About 2.5L, I think
Essexglanza
I've seen posts stating 1.9 litres also ?What about redline shockproof oil, have a TRD diff, heard good things about it but you haven't mentioned it at all. Thanks
cellohan94
Just open the plug on the side and fill from there with syringe until it pours out - this is a sufficient amount oil
JayJ
GT box takes ~2,5litres, Glanza box 1,9litres
