Markgtni Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 My car recently has started giving out a puff of blueish smoke when I start the car it goes away straight away and doesn't happen while driving or on boost I've been told it could be valve stem seals?? If so is it safe to drive it or could it damage my engine? Quote
hookie663 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Yes sounds lik stem seals em yes safe to drive ul just get tat bluebsmoke asoon as u start it first ting in morning Quote
Calum122 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Will also get lots of smoke on overrun too if its the valve stem seals. Quote
aleximport25 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 sorry for the noob question but what is overrun ?? Quote
ROTABOOST Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 When you are off the throttle but still in gear, going down a hill etc. It's when your engine makes the most vacuum so often pulls oil through a weak stem seal Quote
Markgtni Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 cheers lads minds put at rest anywayes thought my engine was on its way out Quote

I reckon mine need doing too as I do get a small occasion puff after overrun Quote
Calum122 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 What Starlet doesn't smoke. In fact what 90's Japanese car doesn't smoke. I was watching a very sick video of this guys r32 gtr. It was pushing over 700 bhp at the wheels. And it was a stunner of a car. But even that smoked on boost. It is just the belly of the beast. If the smoke is minimal then I wouldn't cry about it. Quote
aleximport25 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 It's not every time tbh but I want to get the fueling checked as it smells a bit rich too Quote
