TimD
Yup!
TimD
I'm likely to blame, perhaps I made a mistake assembling. Perhaps the block that I checked as being flat isn't flat?Engine stills runs, albeit on two cylinders. Cams appear to be in one piece, there isn't any blow by to speak of either. Place your bets now..
AdamB
What head bolts did you use? Did you re-check the torque after like 50 miles?

5e colin
What head bolts did you use? Did you re-check the torque after like 50 miles? no need for that toyota bolts are stretch bolts dont need retorque unless you have those uprated bolts ?? Edited November 16, 2015 by 5e colin
TimD
ARP Didn't re-torque.
AdamB
Did you re-use the headbolts? Or are they new ARP's?I just checked the installation instructions for 4E/5E head bolts, it doesn't mention anything about re-checking the torque so I might have got confused with something else there, my apologies. TimD
Brand new ARP's
Mad Mike EP82
Dirty bolt holes giving incorrect torque reading causing head to lift blowing your head gasket. My guess.
TimD
Got the head off today.. Revealing a rather broken head gasket between 3 and 4. What was expected really, but there is some damage to the piston number 4, and some odd pitting on the cylinder wall, hard to photograph. Especially hard with my iPhone, I can't find my camera anywhere!! The damage to the piston wasn't there before, can't be certain if the pitting on the cylinder wall was there or not. I guess the big question is does this mean the bottom end needs repair as well? Head looks damage free to me, again apologies for the awful photos. What do we reckon? Mad Mike EP82
Bad times!!! Was the car mapped after you changed head gasket tim? If your after a forged motor let me know. Edited December 5, 2015 by Mad Mike EP82
5e colin
damage on nr4 ?? cant see it on my old laptop the damage you see on the wals could be from bits of metal gasket flying against it
Ollieh17
Id definetly be looking at the tune of the car with that damage.
TimD
I'd have thought it was the piece of gasket rattling around rather than the tune. Rest of the pistons are perfect
Ollieh17
I meant to the gasket in the first place
