SKINY Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 is there a way to cure this folks ? can it be striped out and cleaned ? it hunts above idle when im at lights/stopped. when i disconnect it the EML comes on and it dosnt hunt as much. it a 98 1.3 with 82,000ml. i will start a thread tomorrow on it. fucking love it Quote
Stu Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Hunting at idle is usually due to the idle up assembly under the throttle body getting a bit chocked up with corrosion (its common). The system works via the water lines that run to the throttle body which which operate a wax diaphram that bleeds air past the throttle plate when its cold. There isn't any ecu connection to it. You can pull it all off and clean it to remedy the problem. Which plug where you pulling off? Most don't throw a check engine light except maybe the TPS if you pulled that one off? Good luck Quote

Stu Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Haha all good. Yeah try cleaning the throttle body out first, you need to take it off to do it. Make sure you put the water and vac lines back on the right way around otherwise you risk filling the engine with water. Quote
SKINY Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 (edited) will do that first then, may have a known working one of another Toyota but need to check part no,s are the same. Edited February 3, 2016 by SKINY Quote

SKINY Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 seriously folks, near 200 veiws and no-one can advise me ?? Thought this place was a fountain of knowledge fuck sakes Quote
richardc9052 Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 as above. the fountain of knowledge only works if you listen to it. Quote
SKINY Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 yea all cleaned but still nowt also its the other sensor on the back, not tps as first suspected Quote
richardc9052 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Take the intercooler piping off the throttle body and then start the car and let it idle. When it hunts up and diwn, place your finger over the hole on the bottom of the inside of the throttle body. If that stops it you need a new wax valve (bottom part that's bolted to your throttle body) If not, try unplugging your iacv which is at the other end of the inlet manifold. Unless you have a vac leak somewhere either one of those is your problem Quote
Stu Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 ^This. To clean the idle wax diaphragm you need to take the whole thing apart and carefully clean it out, they fill up with scale and rusty water. In my experience this is the cause for 95% of all hunting issues. Quote
SKINY Posted May 18, 2016 Author Posted May 18, 2016 its a NA folks with Rolla Mani and throttle body Quote
Stu Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Pretty much a sealed unit from memory. Did you try what Richardc9052 said about the throttle body? Take the intercooler piping off the throttle body and then start the car and let it idle. When it hunts up and diwn, place your finger over the hole on the bottom of the inside of the throttle body. If that stops it you need a new wax valve (bottom part that's bolted to your throttle body)If not, try unplugging your iacv which is at the other end of the inlet manifold.Unless you have a vac leak somewhere either one of those is your problem Quote
SKINY Posted June 9, 2016 Author Posted June 9, 2016 yes tried it and still no diffrent, when starting from cold it sits about 800rpm until it warms up, then it drops to 500ish. it dosent hunt at all but still chucks code 33 iacv valve intermititly. i have the one of the origanal starlet throttle body here so, how do i clean that then ?? EP70-PT Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I had it removed for my itb's and when I didn't plug the sensor in, it threw me a code too, plugged it back in (does nothing, it's hanging in the bay) and the code went away.. still have trouble idling though..., been playing with the idle screw bit not much luck...
