Turbo Goose
Anyone got any ideas what this tapping/knocking noise is?Ive just spent ages sorting out all my valve clearances as I thought that was the noise.Ita been like it ever since the engine was built and doesnt seem to have got any worse after months of driving, it was on the dyno like it as wellhttp://s1096.photobucket.com/user/Haresign/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160224_171249_zpslb4uvheg.mp4.html Edited February 25, 2016 by Turbo Goose

Turbo Goose
Msg the other noise is my timing belt ive done the tensioner too tight Edited February 25, 2016 by Turbo Goose
Johnboy GT
I have the same mate, and from what I found on here quite a few people running the same pistons and rods complain of the same noise. I checked heaps of things, Inc valve clearances etc and they all seemed fine so I've basically put it down to being this combination of pistons and rods. Same as yourself, I've ran mine in and given it a fair bit of stick and she still runs perfectly so I will wait and see the view the mapper has on it when I go down with it.John
Turbo Goose
Keep me updated on what he says. Half tempted to start ripping my engine apart agen to check clearances
Johnboy GT
I will do mate. Be a month or two down the line yet. Going for paint in a fortnight.John
StuDoc 72
Did you re-tension the cam gears when you fitted the cams?
Turbo Goose
Ye man cam gears tensioned
msg1
I never thought of the piston and Rod combination tho...interesting, but you do have a good point there.
Cathal
My 5e sound like that aswell. Ross pistons 74.5 and scat rods

Johnboy GT
Still scat rods being used which if I'm correct the block needs notching for them.John
msg1
Yep, the block does indeed need notching. Looking forward to hearing from someone who actually got the noise sorted, although it does not affect performance.
Turbo Goose
If you dont notch the block they physically do not turn on the crank
Johnboy GT
Aye aye I know that. I'm just throwing out suggestions to what the noise could be from.John
msg1
Beats me as to why come have it and others don't, even though they were all built/forged.
5T4R7ET N/A
Check your exhaust manifold gaskets, that can give a nasty ticking noise.I dont know what the whiring noise is? Edited March 4, 2016 by 5T4R7ET N/A
mr_K
Mine has the exact same knocking, ive checked all clearnces and also re done the timing like 5times each time with cam tensioned sounds still there.Mines been running for a year now and no issues. Its just the combination or wiseco pistons and scat roads i guess
