lovely build and the car looks awsome. Where did you get the new headlamps from if you dont mind me asking ? Im at that point too.

Its been a while since I updated this thread, to pick up where I left off I finished reassembling the engine and got it running all be it only for a short time as it needed mapping.
So off to tuning developments it went, unfortunately due to the compression ratio the corolla inlet was no good and needed to be changed for an fte inlet and throttle body along with an fte dizzy setup. Mike ran the engine in on the dyno for a 1k miles on the dyno before mapping and it was fitted with a link standalone ecu as the emange piggy back wouldnt do what was needed. She made 144 bhp @0.5 bar on a stock ct9 while I put some more miles on her.
Fast forward 12 months, ive been using it as a daily driver with no issues at and have racked up around 4k miles of driving. However last week it decided to start playing up and cuts out when you touch the throttle pedal (suspected tps).
Ive done a few other bits to it parts wise so will get some pics up once its fixed...... again !

Ah such a shame after all the hardwork thats gone in to it, enjoyed the channel on yt too. shame it wasnt repairable as it appeared rust free which is becoming a rarity these days. any joy finding another yet mate ?

Forgot to mention also my neighbour unfortunately backed in to it as well last week and caused minor body damage and broke the left tail light lense 🤦♂️. Toyota don’t do the lenses anymore and are like rocking 🐴 💩 to find ! Lucky Dan at djr imports had one for £120 to help me out and I need to book the car in at work to have the bumper done.

Not updated this in a while, the glanza still gets used as a daily and although it passes mot every year a few things need doing on it now. I have new powerflex mounts as the stock ones are a bit tired now. The flexi started to blow on the exhaust too so got a new stainless one to weld in. There’s also an oil leak from the timing side ( probably oil pump o ring) that needs seeing to and I think the water pump has a slight weep so plenty to keep me busy. Also bagged some new his gaskets for the exhaust as well.

Great stuff!
Did you buy the Turbo crankshaft or was it a nice surprise when you pulled the engine apart?
Looking forward to this.
Yeah it already had a forged crankshaft in it when I pulled it out, just waiting on the block to come back from the machine shop then I’ll get it back together

So a bit of an update as it’s been a while, I put the head back on and built it up only for it to smoke as bad as before 🤦♂️. So I pulled the whole engine out and pulled it apart to find the oil control rings were stuck on all 4 pistons causing blow by.
while it’s out and apart it’s getting forged, I’ve gone for maxpeeding rods and 74.5 mm wossner pistons with all new shells, bearings and a cometic gasket

I’ve only ever had positive experiences with Mike at td. I can confirm that they are no longer at their old site and I can’t seem to contact them for parts, if anyone has a contact number please can you pm me

I would always use a Toyota gasket for a sub 250 hp build or a cometic gasket from upwards of 250 hp just my opinion as I’ve had cheaper gaskets fail really easy. Search Matt berry on YouTube he does a really great video on starlet head gaskets

Head looks really clean mate. Good choice for going with the uprated springs and studs.
More boost? 😈
Yeah mate that’s the plan, boost levels will always be an issue with na valve springs. I think I’m gonna forge the bottom end whilst it’s in bits as well

Nice to see an update mate even if its not always the best news great to see this builds still alive
Thanks mate it’s still alive just not had the time really to crack on with it. The cylinder head has been pressure tested and skimmed with new stem seals. I’ve also had Mike at td supply and fit a set of their uprated valve springs and a set of arp head bolts

Not updated this in a while, work and life in general has been hectic so not a lot has happened over the last year really. The sr passed mot first time 😀 and then just sat in a corner of the unit at work unfortunately. Started her up about a month ago and noticed a small amount of blue smoke when it had warmed up ? Bugger !
That combined with a slightly milky oil cap was enough to pull the head and do the gasket as I’m positive it will be the original gasket.

I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to build this car and race it four times which was an unbelievable if at times scary experience which I loved ever minute of. I was also fortunate enough to receive some driver tuition from Tom Bradshaw who is a former Porsche carrera cup gb scholar and class 1 championship winner. He’s rapid and scared the hell out of me but also showed me the car was well built and solid enough to take the beating he gave it 😂. However sadly the car was built to sell and never to keep but just for us to enjoy it before we sold it. I’m glad to say the 986 has gone to a new home and will be back on the grid and competing in the club championship in 2021. It’s fair to say my appetite for racing has been wetted so can’t wait for the next chapter competing in the tss with the starlet sr turbo. Thanks for reading!
