  1. so i cant run the stock ecu even at 8-10psi? aswell as having the ignition set up by the evo guys down the road from me?
  2. yeah its my daily, and a little bit of fast use on weekends, i drive it pretty sensibly during day time, lots of police round my area until night time, plus its more exciting when you boost every now and then rather than all the time
  3. Im only putting in the money and effort cause i want a reliable engine, I cracked 3 pistons in my standard engine and the effort it wouldve taken to rebuild it with stock bits that are likely to do the same thing, I had the money for forged bits, so why not? plus its safer on a td04 (even though people do run td04 on stock internals), half of it is just for peace of mind of having a fresh engine, plus can sell for more if i do ever sell the car
  4. so what would the difference be by running a 1.9mm gasket? i only ever put in vpower or bp ultimate anyway, and due to running stock ecu i wont be boosting above 10 psi i dont think!
  5. take a read of the other thread talking more in depth about it http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/70509-higher-compression-retard-timing/
  6. 9.0 compression Wiseco pistons, head hasnt been skimmed, I was going to get it done but its straight and flat as it should be, surprisingly...
  7. how much would the compression drop by when using a 1.9mm gasket compared to a 1.4? or a 1.2 even....
  8. so how do you actually measure it? and if my pistons arent 9:1 that means 8.5:1 arent 8.5....? ive sent my 1.2mm gasket back for a 1.4mm in exhange, im getting my timing set up by my local tuner who are evo specialists and also do a lot of starlets, had a word with them today they said itll be absolutely fine providing i get the thicker head gasket and my ignition is set up right, and also run higher octane fuel, running a td04 on low boost. Would I be better with the 1.9mm gasket over the 1.4 i was intending on swapping for? also 74mm bores, not 74.5
  9. flat tops yeah, how do i measure the cr? ahh this is more agro than i thought itd be didnt have any plans really to upgrade ecu, whats wrong with using a piggy back?
  10. theyre wiseco 9.0 compression ratio pistons says on the box, im on the stock ecu, been told by a lot of tuning places that itll be fine, and that itll be more economical and responsive and more torque, but obviously will come with the heat factor so will be running less boost, just wanted to know about retarding the timing, was going to get my tuner to do it for me
  11. rebuilding my engine with 9:1 compression pistons (people are probably gunna moan cause I shouldnt go higher, but yeah ) once its rebuilt and all the cams are back in , valve timing sorted etc, when I put the distributor back in place (in the exact place it was when i took it out) will the timing need retarding due to the higher comp?
  12. or just use a piston ring compressor lol
  13. if you need a hammer for them to go in then im sure they shouldnt be going in at all lol!
  14. haha yeah im sure It'd be nice and round
  15. lol the clearance at the moment is 2 thou, they need to be 3.5 minimum so doing that tomorrow
  16. yeah man had my block notched earlier just gotta get the bores honed out another 2 thou and they'll be ready to drop in!
  17. very happy with his service, was very helpful and had the rods I needed in stock and i received them the next day!! all this messing about with Race-tech for 3 weeks, I wish I ordered from Mike in the first place, very polite and easy to deal with
  18. just received my rods from Mike @ TD today, happy days!! is there a direction for the rod or does it matter? also theres no oil holes in the big ends? how does the oil reach the shells to lube them?!
  19. yeah man the mild steel one is cheaper than the stainless lol take a look http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STARLET-EP82-91-TD04-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-DE-CAT-MILD-STEEL-/400181167176?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d2ca80448 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STARLET-EP82-91-TD04-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-DE-CAT-MILD-STEEL-/110658529614?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19c3c3294e got him down to 135 but ended up buying off here instead
  20. sorry to ruin the party but these are brand new on ebay with the decat for £150 or nearest offer ,i bumped the guy to £135 but didnt buy it in the end
  21. im asking a few people now, one of my mates is coming with me hes being a passenger on the track, plus brands is 10min drive from mine so much better for me
  22. not at brands theres no part sessions, I think Lydden do shorter sessions for less money, but brands is a better track in my opinion
  23. the bung that came with the wideband is an inch long and covers the whole sensor once screwed on, is that how its meant to be? Ive already made a bung thats half an inch long so the sensor actually pokes into the exhaust, what one should i use? short or long?
