  1. So update time again :)

Managed to get a shit ton done to the car this weekend gone,  literally a few tiny bits left and she will be running and driving!

What i got done at the weekend...

    1) Cut into the OEM injector loom and connected the new ID1050x plugs onto the loom with the link injector harness and wrapped it all up nice and tidy.
    2) Fitted the Bosche Knock sensor and fed the knock loom into the passenger foot well ready to connect to the link.
    3) Spliced and soldered new Intake temp sensor into existing loom connection and made longer loom to reach welded bung on intercooler piping
    4) Re timed the engine upto the 4E timing marks as reccomended by rob ready for mapping and fitted new bottom timing cover.
    5) Tidied up general wiring around the engine bad and cable tied everything
    6) Did an oil and filter change as had the car running for around 30 mins after the first start, the oil was black for the first 1L that fell out then rest was like honey.  Load of swarf on the sump plug as expected super fine metal paste.  Few more oil changes will sort that. Will probs pull the sump after mapping and get it in a parts washer to get rid of any remaining swarf.
    7) Test fitted carbon mid spoiler looks pretty decent!
    8. Fitted new wheels may need to remove some front spacers as they poke out rather far haha.
    9) Fitted 0.7bar spring into tial wastegate
    10) Fitted WEPR Dizzy blank cap

    Bits left to do...
    1) Fit walbro 255 fuel pump
    2) Finish TPS wiring
    3) Wire AEM wideband into Link ecu plug
    4) Put intake manifold back on
    5) Prime fuel system check for leaks
    6) Connect to link and get rob to put base map on it.

    Here are some photos!

Very nice build, makes me want to do a build thread for mine, seems like Facbook has taken over tho sadly. I have one of the TD 3" exhausts, very nice bit of kit and not silly loud for track days.

Thanks man appreciate it, Get a build thread done mate then you can look back at your progression and i have more stuff to read when im on break haha. Yeah im looking forward to hearing how it sounds.

Nice. Is the td exhaust the3 inch one they have listed on their website or was this something custom they did for you? (Apart from leaving off the reducer)

its the same one on the website but i had them get rid of the reducer and make the 3 inch pipe longer to suit my build! Better ordering over the phone with them if you want anything as the website does not work for ordering any more i believe.

  4. Update:

Lol another update a few hours after the other one i just posted...

So i sent my rocker cover away to simon fisher at Fiske and got him to weld on my K20 COP fittings , got the rocker cover back off him yesterday and fitted it tonight.

All i can say is wow the bay is really coming to life cant wait to turn her over this weekend for the first time on the link storm X ecu.  enjoy the photos more coming soon.

  5. Small update:

Just got my Tuning developments exhaust through the post, I had mike not put on the stock reducer on their exhaust thats go from 3" to 2.5" so i can weld on a 3" flange to the exhaust to match my down pipe, car should be running this weekend so will drive it to my local exhaust customs place to finish it off to suit.  Mapping in 27 days from now need to crack on with the final bits. Getting rather excited now!

Exhaust looks really good quality some of the welds are insane good effort TD

  6. Small update:

As you all know the weather has been shit across the UK for weeks now and when your trying to do electrical work they dont go together very well haha!

So I've been behind my glove box and I've tidied up the horrendous wiring from who ever butchered into it previously as there was multiple splicings into the loom for voltage connections just left hanging and all sorts,  as you can tell by all the red cuts of wire in the foot well must have been almost 15-20 wires just hanging.  So i cut them all down and electrical taped the loom up to stop any wires shorting out.  I have cable tied and tidied a few wires and control units back under the dash to stop rattling and give me more room.

So the ECU and Plug and play harness is in at the moment.  Plans for this weekend is to put in the bosche knock sensor on the block and plug it into the ecu loom,  I will also be doing the ID1050x wiring loom this weekend if all goes to plan and get that connected into the ECU.  The ID1050x injectors have also been put into the fuel rail ready cant wait to get them running as you can get a super smooth idle mapped into them that you can't do with the denso models available.

I will also be taking off the intake manifold this weekend and attaching the New TPS sensor and will also be sorting out the LINK 4 bar MAP so should be a busy weekend.

Also went to my mate Joey's at the weekend and he welded me a threaded bung onto my intercooler pipe for an aftermarket intake temperature sensor.  Had a suprise while i was there too his grandad is hiding a R34 skyline in his garage for safe keeping looks absolutely mint too!

Future plans for the coming week/weeks.

Sending my rocker cover of to simon at fiske to weld me on COP fittings and i will also install the carbon rear mid spoiler to see what it looks like.

Apart from that clocking out for now updates coming soon car needs to be running with in a week!

    its looking good...😎

could i make a suggestion?! could you consider putting some sort of rubber/silicone protection between the top tank of the radiator and the the car/chassis metal piece just in front of it? it looks quite close and may touch during hard driving....these aluminium radiators are quite soft and could easily develop a hole

    Thanks mate!

The rad is super sturdy tbh does not move, If i find it wobbling at all i will do that thanks for the heads up.

Hi Lads, looking to update my build but photobucket and tinypic ant working for me. What way you lads up load photos? thanks.

I upload mine to imgur then when it says upload complete you click the down arrow at the top right of the photo click get share links then copy the forums url and paste it into here and it loads the photo. hope thats works for you

  9. Soooo.. little update

Got my Link storm ECU now, there was a slight supply issue with the previous generation of the link storm ecu that i ordered but rob fisher upgraded me to the Link storm X the brand new 2020 model free of charge which is over £160 more for the issue, so top bloke on that one cant wait for him to map it at racecal.  He is also in the process of making the final loom and COP looms up and should have it by this weekend hopefully... so more photos will be coming.

Also my door cards have been missing the plastic covers for the handles you close the doors with and also the switches since i got it, So i picked up a few plastics off facebook and started tidying up the interior a bit while waiting for the ecu so the door cards look 100x better does not look trashy anymore.

While sorting the door cards at the weekend i also took a few photos of the car for fun so ill put a few of them up in this post too :)  I also picked up a carbon rear mid spoiler for £120 it is scratched on the top and i dont like carbon too much so im probs going to paint it (which is debatable by most peoples view) but dont care unless someone wants to swap a 040 white one for my carbon one. :)  Oh and I have ordered a Tuning developments 3inch exhaust too im going to modify to suit my 3 inch downpipe.

  10. Quick update...

Found my misfire problem, It was not due to the reasons i thought,  It was my fault it was occuring, when i was cleaning and tidying up the engine bay i tucked my MAP sensor behind the inlet manifold but i forgot to re attach a vac line to the MAP sensor, So that was the reason it was misfiring under any load at all.  I've managed to start the car with it plugged all back in however it does not fully mis fire anymore which is good but it just splutters a bit and wont idle by its self currently. Need to get a timing light on it.  Glad i found my mistake easy thing to do i guess.

On another note, i have ordered my Link storm ecu and loads of the other bits needed to run it like knock sensors ect from rob at FISKE so waiting on him making the looms now for the ecu and COP conversion. hopegully get them soon and can start running the car in.  Until then clocking off

That's all cool with regards to the fuel pressure, plugs, injectors etc...

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure timing isn't affected by the length of the stroke on the crank. On both 4e and 5e engines the engine position sent to the ECU from the cam sensor in distributor (some 5e's also have a crank sensor but yours doesn't). The stock ignition map from both the 5e and 4e ECU's should be fine to run the car pottering about. What you need to check is that the timing has been set to 10 degrees using a timing light and bridging the relevant pins on the OBD port. Another thing to check is if the timing is correct between the cams and the crank when the timing belt was fitted if its a definitely a timing issue with the car.

I'm not an expert by any means but I have mapped my own car and set the base timing etc and have a bit of experience with poor timing and fueling. When i first started up on the standalone ECU the map was really rich which would start ok, idle ok, rev okish but the minute you put any load on the engine it would misfire which sounds a bit like your issue since you are running rich

    Best of luck

Ill have a look into it more when i have time later in the month, thanks mate.  i thought it would just run i need to get a timing light on it as everything else is lined up spot on.

Great build man, stick in there. The last 5% always takes 95% of the time getting the small details sorted out.

Just out of interest you aren't using the Injector Dynamics yet? Another thing to check would be what fuel pressure you have with the engine running and vac line pulled off. Think it should be 2.3 bar or something for stock pressure.

Running really rich will cause misfires, it can also foul your spark plugs so would be careful you don't end up damaging them. If you need to replace them then a lot of people (including myself) swear by the copper NKG's rather than the iridiums, you can pick up a set of 4 delivered for less than £10 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4x-NGK-Spark-Plug-BKR7E/352432780855

My problem is timing from the ecu. due to the longer stroke on the crank ect the timing is out in all rev ranges apart from idle, the fuel pressure is at 2.3 bar with the vac line off.  I cannot run the copper plugs as i need to run heat range 8 plugs due to my boost goals.  The ecu should sort it all out. I will be putting the injectors in once the ecu comes so it should be all sorted soon.  Glad you like the build and everyone is enjoying my hard work! cheers boys
