i pierced my ears and streched them myself aswel as doing alot of my mates. you'd be suprised how much it doesnt hurt when it comes to it. also your quite lucky you didnt hit the nerve that drops the side of your face as im sure its not as deep as you think -

I actually got my place at a collage before I got my aprentiship. It took me absolutly ages to find one and the collage didn't help me find a place. I guess I'm lucky getting one these days
