  1. I used to work for Lexus which is how I got into starlet's. Just got my recall letter through. Looking forward to my free courtesy wash and replacement airbag. See if they notice any of my more subtle mods. As I understand it was first found on the sc430 (on lexus cars anyway) Obviously both car manufacturers and probably the airbag inflator manufacturer wants to minimise the recall. Maybe a year after that it was discovered these inflators were fitted to ct200h and is300h. To hear that it goes back as far as my 23 year old £300 shed is crazy. The cost must be astronom
  2. De-Solv-it sticky stuff remover. I'm sure there is a proper chemical that the trade use, but I read it works and its like 5-6 quid a can from halfrauds. Spray it on, leave about 10 mins and use a plastic filler spreader to scrape. Metal will damage the paint. Repeat until its all gone and then rinse it off well.
  3. I picked one of these up a few weeks ago, recently restocked I believe. Still waiting for some bearings to come through so I can do Morgey's solid shifter mod at the same time. I would rather increase the leverage at the shift lever end as Trevstar said, and probably will at some point once my mate fixes his welder, but the Hypersport kit is only cheap so I thought it was worth a go.
  4. PM'd him and within 2 hours I was on my way to collect. He did all the little fiddly bits while I was on route and then rewired AND fitted the clocks for me and made sure all gauges and lights were working. They look brand new, and it was more like having a mate help you out than a purchase. Top bloke, good example of what I like about this community. Cheers
  5. Likewise. Good to bounce some ideas off you, and thanks for the master fitting class! Above and beond the call but very much appreciated! Keep at it.
  6. I will look into it for ya mate. Sorry I didn't see your wanted post. Main issue is going to be packaging. Most poster tubes aren't wide enough so I am looking at the cardboard pallet corner protectors. Just want to make sure they dont get folded by someone! Now I know you are after them I will keep hold of them until I have worked out the best way. I'll PM you once I have a rough idea on package dimensions and grab some quotes. NI yeah?
  7. that gearbox casing! Those OEM options! those headlight covers! Love the NA direction, the subtle mods on the interior and the standard you achieve. A mate of mine is running a Megasquirt kit he built on his 8v Carlton turbo estate. Lots to tinker with, lots (for me) to learn. Interested to see this progress, very inspiring for a noob like me.
  8. Shame about lack of support for legacy software. The work from the Mods is very much appreciated. Not sure how many people this will affect, my usual desktop machine to view the forum is setup to forget everything on shutdown, and I notice there is no way of getting to a secure login page (E.g. https). - even if you jump to a login error page - ( http://www.ukstarletowners.com/login/ ) Just wondered if this is planned to change or not and I will update my practices accordingly?
  9. Little update: Before After sidemoulding delete (forgot it on original list) On a related note, I have a full set of side mouldings and solida badges in reasonable nick, free to collect from North London area in the unlikely event anyone is interested. Will keep them for a couple weeks in case someone is going for the stock look otherwise I cant store them and they will be binned. Really needs clear side repeaters now. But will happen after I get back from hols. Also really needs OSF wing. Anyone know a good scrap yard/breakers in
  10. Thanks akyakpotter. No rush I'm just doing preliminary research at the moment. Any other oem options go straight on that are the same size or smaller?
  11. Guilty, your Honour! Sorry couldn't resist... Based on what people are saying here: http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/101218-best-exhaust-manifold/ Would likely be an ee100/101 from a scrap yard to keep things cheap (if there are still any around). I need to do a bit more research for myself and also likely to be dependant on whats available. Would love a 5efhe manifold but I don't even know what they look like plus they are extra hard to come by... Having to manually research what things look like thanks to photobucket is a pain, but I wont let it hinder my progress. Plenty of
  12. http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/105452-is200-steering-wheel-in-97-glanza/ Saw the above on my trawls and an IS200 wheel sounds appealing since they are pretty cheap my wheel is going manky and pitted etc... Just wondered, anyone know if they are the same diameter as original EP91 N/A? dont mind smaller but dont want to go bigger. I remember them being satisfyingly small in the IS200s but it was over a year ago I was in one...
  13. Couple weeks ago I had enough of the audio so: pulled the sub to get theile small parameters for rebuilding the box, in the end the box is basically close enough to the correct size so just refurbed it. previous owner bodged the port up had this in stock trimmed the flange off the internal flare and flattened one edge for clearance added neoprene gasket... love this stuff - everything that screws to the box got this added to it original internal wire vs new 14AWG pure copper testing with a computer PSU soldering the power teminal routi
  14. Once these tyres and wheels went on I fell in love with the car. So a plan has been hatched, and the general aim is relatively subtle, cheap, and era appropriate mods where possible prioritising in descending order: Cheap daily driving Fast road –ish Make it a bit more desirable but not baitcar I am as skint as I usually am at the moment so starting small and working my way up: Gingercator delete – (Thanks for the guide Morgey! Saved me some broken clips) Looks like that bodge repair has been done more than once since there is an aftermarket cluster in there.
  15. After 6 months I decided a few comfort related improvements were required: The OE sony cassette display didn’t work and had to go Aerial needed fixing Cupholders were required Had an alpine in stock and modded the old aircon blank for the USB input. Was originally going to try to bodge the alpine usb cable in – pressfit style but had to grab a panel mount, which is why the opening is a bit oversized. Need to black out the screws when I get a chance. White plastic dust is from filing out the socket behind (I’m never going to put aircon in this so…). Didn’t know at this p
  16. I always end up waffling with these things so lets stick to the facts… Bought an NA EP91 in 1AO blueish silver with 74K on it, as a cheap beater to and from work and a year on I love it, so just going to track updates, repairs mods etc here, since it has earned some attention. When I bought it I spotted/was informed of these issues with it: Well overdue the 60k (timing belt, all filters, plugs, oil etc) OSF lightly crashed (badly repaired) but straight underneath NSF suspension knocking Juddering when meshing clutch Bent rear wiper arm Would need a couple of tyres soon Very s
  17. Hi all, Bought the above as a little runabout to get me to and from work just under a year ago. It's got right under my skin! Done a few audio mods and stuff and been reading through impressively helpful posts for some upgrade/diagnosis research. Thought I better register and get involved. Look forward to chatting to fellow owners and hopefully having something to contribute from my time in parts at lexus.
