i read that with cars like impreza's and evo's that when the knock sensor detects lower octane fuel the ecu kicks in to run the engine at lower power output to preserve itself, i'll see if i can find the article but as bourkey says your mate can't prove it was your fault and i really don't think it was. A suburu system is definately designed to cope with 95 fuel. To google. EDIT seems to be a grey area but from my reading the minimum octane is 93. just follow the expert advice of bourkey

when i got my starlet it had a burst radiator. and the coolant bottle was constantly empty. i ran it like this for 2 months and it had run with it for a long time before i got it cause the rust was ridiculous under the bonnet. never had any problems. the temp guage remained at half. my radiator coolant seemed to drop to a certain level and then remain there. so it is possible to run it without, as long as you top it up frequently. Edit. Not to second guess rick by the way as i'm not sure how safe it is on a track car, which i assume will get hotter

it had this ridiculous design flaw with the intake system. the pipe it 1 inch from the headlight. so its very restrictive. once i took said pipe off (which had the resonator attached) it goes much better and even has a nicer sound.

yeah bourkey your right, they are lighter. i'm the same as you the first car i ever drove was my mums 01 micra (not new style thank god) and they were good on fuel and good to drive. but have REAAAAALLY loose suspension. and the fact that im like 6'5 made it a tad uncomfortable

as far as i know the power gains/loss depend on the actual decat. if you lose too much backpressure in a N/A engine it doesn't expell the exhaust fast enough and essentialy bogs it down. so it has to be the right size, its like using a custom exhaust with a huge bore. you end up losing power over a certain diameter

its an easy mistake to make. how many people have heard of a starlet compared to the number of people who know micra's. and they sound like knobs

Sent off a letter to the solicitor today expressing my displeasure at the current circumstances. both me and my dad reckon somebody cocked up when telling us to get rid of the car. so that's why it has come back to us.

nah it was more along the lines of "im sorry. look what i did to your car." Look! Look what you did? i frikin felt it... I've learned a few lessons from this. 1. take pictures 2. get independant witnesses 3. shaft the insurance company before they shaft you... I managed to keep calm at the time, but i swear if somebody runs into me tommorow i may not be so forgiving knowing what you have to go through for your inconvenience
