Cheers mate, yeah im just round the corner, yours sounds sweet man.. We need a Mids meet so i can have a closer look at a few local cars.. -
Far as i know they're the same performance-wise.. Which is why it's daft that the quotes are so different :/
-
That's all ive had quotes for, fully comp would be thousands! Ill give Sky a ring, its just daft that i can insure a Gt for so cheap....
-
Ive rang quite a few, Swinton just cut me off! im with quinn now but my renewal price for my polo was the same price im paying now, theyve gone shit...
-
Adrian Flux wanted 2900, and they just kept transferring me to different companies.. What are Sky like? Surely they know about the Glanzas and can insure one the same as a GT?
-
Cheers guys.. Scott, ive had those quotes.. 19, 2 yrs experience, 1 yrs NCB, GT Turbo.. £1200. Glanza V not listed, the cheapest i could get a quote for one anywhere else is £2800! Im paying £1600 at the moment for my Polo, so realistically, if i can get the Glanza V insured for anywhere between those 2 prices i'd be happy, it's not much to ask is it? surely some companies must know about these cars......
-
This is just daft now.. i can get great quotes for GT Turbo's from companies that list them, but the companies that list Glanza V's are coming up with insane prices! I realise this has been brought up countless times but it really is stupid considering they're both imports and both basically the same engine/power/weight etc... And there's people with the same circumstances as me saying they're insuring their's legallys for like 12/1300 quid.. how?!
-
Lol cheers bud. Thanks for the advice peeps!

I think im gonna go ECU. This'll be my first turbo or even fast car so i dont want to risk too much.. If it was a huge price difference then id probably go FCD but i dont mind paying a few hundred to do it all properly. It's the effort too.. im decent at mechanics but have no experience with turbos or fuelling adjustments, and wiring does my head in, i rarely get a 2 day weekend or long enough evening to work on the car..
-
Price is one of the main issues, but if i can get a plug and play for close to the price of all the parts of the FCD setup then it'll be great.
-
Sounds about right, cost me like £20 for bog standard Bosch plugs.. I wont have the car for like 3 months but i just want to plan everything in advance lol.
-
Yeah will do, save upgrading them again later... NGK and 8mm leads be reet?
-
Good stuff. Well im still trying to remember all the mods i'd like (engine-wise).. but i figure.. Full service, de restrict boost, boost gauge, turbo timer, BOV.. Manifold, Decat, Cat-back system.. Relocated induction kit.. FMIC.. Plug and play ECU.. uprated acutator.. boost controller.. And then in the future maybe step up to a hybrid.. Sound about right?
-
Are the plug and play ECU's just that.. plug and play? like no mapping or mass wiring needed?
-
Anyone got any pics of the speaker location?
-
Fair play man!
-
Im quite an ICE enthusiast but as my GLanza will be performance orientated, i'll just be sticking some decent quality 4" up front (JBL are good in that size from experience) and then probably hiding some 6x9s in the back, cant be bothered with subs and amps to be honest...
-
Just as a general guide, what kind of rough prices are we talking for the different types of ECU, taking into account fitting, wiring, mapping.....?
-
Seen the odd one for sale now and again.. Realistically i think £600+ for a Greddy unit is gonna be too much.. Ive seen some used ones for half that but im not sure which brand / model it was. Thanks for the advice though guys i think ive got a good idea as to what i want.. Should be searching around for a Glanza in December (great time ay?) when my insurance is up for renewal.
-
So basically an ECU would be the ideal replacement or alternative to the whole FCD / RRFPR scenario..? Am i right in thinking a plug and play ECU would be enough up to around 200bhp and a standalone more suitable for big power setups?
-
So am i right in thinking.... With the basic mods, exhaust, FMIC etc etc.. boost can be increased to make more power (essentially). Fuel cut needs preventing, then fuelling needs regulating to sustain the boost? or to keep the engine running at a good enough level to support the extra boost? And then is it just a case of.. the more boost you run, up until say, the 200 mark, the turbo and/or fuelling system will start becoming strained as they haven't been properly upgraded? Sorry im new to turbo's and Starlets but im trying to get an idea of how everything works togther.. Chris.
-
Hope this is the right section for this... Been studying alot about the stage 1 and 2 upgrades etc, and using FCD's and RRFPR's.. I know alot of people say it's the crude way of doing things, but realistically, how bad of an idea is it? It seems alot of people have still gone down this route as opposed to the management route, are there really any horror stories? I was just thinking, obviously nothing will be as accurate as management with a custom map, but ive heard the HKS FCD's have multiple settings, so added to a RRFPR and say, uprated fuel pump, and say, an air/fuel ratio gauge (seen
