Time Attack/Circuit Car Build - **Forged engine installed!**
mindless replied to mindless's topic in EP80/EP82 Progress Blogs
Invited to display the car as part of the local ToyotaFest. Had the engine bay detailed and a spare 5EFE rocker cover painted to replace the current one. Also we now have a bigger full aluminum radiator replacing the stock EP82 one. The engine bay will probably never be this clean again lol -

New race videos! They threw a new track configuration at us for the 6th leg of the circuit racing series we are part of. It was very short and technical – one prominent feature being a fast left hand sweeper that ends into a slow right turn and immediately into a lefthand hairpin. If that wasn't enough it started to rain in the afternoon making the track wet and muddy from cars passing on the grassy areas. My afternoon time attack run: This was my last ditch to try and get a time within my previous bracket where I was running for overall points. But the car is now just beyond that level and I ended up breaking out again by a about 1 sec despite trying to sandbag my run. This placed me in the middle of the next highest class. I clocked in a best time of 1m 36.585s (fastest time allowed for my previous bracket is 1m 37.500). The only consolation I guess was being able to hold that Lancer Evo at bay during my last lap was an awesome experience Here's the video of my afternoon run (last lap was the fastest): >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCPnUIsirgY Next up is my brother's wheel to wheel race. Unexpected rain and mud from the last chicane caused him to spin out at the 2nd lap losing 7 places dropping to 10th from 3rd and it didn't help that we forgot to soften the suspension settings to compensate for the wet track. It was a hard battle but he successfully clawed his way through the pack to take back 3rd and finish on the podium. @maddox710 yeah we're hoping it will. with 6 hours of straight driving, anything to cool the fuel temp will be an advantage. We are the only ones that will run a turbocharged car. @shorty I'm honestly surprised by how good the pistons are. They got me thinking of a "budget" forged build = YCP vitara pistons (~$130) + forged 4EFTE rods (~$397). Apparently D-series guys mate vitara pistons to forged rods all the time and are able to run ridiculous hp numbers. @morgey thanks! He just has to clean up his corner exit, and I think he will dominate the civic. But giving that 2.4L engine hell was awesome. -

A few pics and videos from last Saturday's Circuit Showdown leg: A few new things new with the car. The emanage ultimate has been hooked up everything tuned - up until our alternator died, only a day before the race which cut the fine tuning short. We were able to sort out an alternator that we installed on track but the car was running a bit rich. Other than, it still performed flawlessly! The new VTPS is working beautifully and the boost scramble is fucking awesome. Here is my time attack session. I totally broke out into a higher class than what I was battling for overall points in. Fastest time was 2m10.168s good enough to bag 4th in the class. This is my brother's grid wheel to wheel race. He qualified 2nd in the grid and kept 2nd place until the end of the race. Just to give a perspective of how much the car has improved - the lead car in front is a fully built 2.4L K24-R (k20 type R head with k24 block) Honda Civic EG hatch race car pushing close to 300 whp. My brother was able to put pressure on the leader all throughout the race. -

A few things we did recently preparing for the next leg of the series finally got to install the emanage ultimate replacing the old Emanage blue. My tuner was able to get a vtps from an automatic 4efte to work with the EMU by wiring the signal directly to the piggyback and faking a tps signal to the ECU (not exactly sure how he faked it). Made tuning a lot easier now as we can tune by throttle position. He also finally got to enabling the "boost scrambler" feature of the AVCR wired temporarily into the horn button. Raises the boost to 1.3 bar for 5 seconds when activated. We still have 2 more days left of fine tuning before the race. Excited to try the boost scramble on the main straight! -
sorry need to bump this up as we're installing the EMU soon on the race car

I've been searching everywhere for this and can't seem to find a definite post in how to set the jumpers on then EMU board for our engine. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Another not so small update. Picked up a new Emanage Ultimate (rev E) to replace the old trusty Emanage Blue . Weird though I've spent about an hour searching for the 4efte jumper settings but I haven't found any. Can anyone help? -

@chrisgreen1993 yep it is. I was hoping to improve my time but I wasn't expecting a 15 second jump. The last bit of suspension work did the trick I think especially the retrofitted rear sway bar. The car just rotates smoothly when you get off the power and then just slam on the throttle to exit the corner. Pleasantly surprised that I could keep up with a GT3 RS in the corners (the straights are a different story of course ;) ) @Amjad will do mate I'll see what I can do to help you out bro @turbo Grant thanks, it has come a long way and still has a long way to go. You should track your car these babies were meant to flogged on the track! -

@Amjad It's pretty simple actually the plates have short reducer tubes welded on to it - just long enough to clamp the flexible hose on and then just route the hose around the wheel well and fasten it with cable ties so that its pointed towards the brake caliper and disc But I'll see if I can take pictures the next time we take it apart for maintenance ;) -

@Amjad yep buddy those are vents for the brakes there are a flexible hoses connected to the plates -

@shorty thanks a lot man! Videos are up! This is my brother's grid race where he claws his way from 13th on the starting grid to 3rd and takes podium at 1st place! (top 2 cars broke out of the allowed fastest time for the class and incurred heavy time penalties): My time attack session: Broke out from last year's bracket F time of 2m 48.019s to get 2m 33.992s placing me in bracket D. -

This race weekend has been one of the best we've had! I was able to significantly improve my time in Clark International Speedway's long course. From running in Bracket F last year (2m 48.019s), I'm now running in Bracket D (2m 33.992s). That is a whopping **14 seconds** difference. Although not enough to place in the new faster bracket, I'm very happy with the improvement. Highlight of the weekend though was my brother going on to bag 1st place in Grid C **FROM 13th ON THE GRID**. Great team, great car. Overall an awesome race. I'll post full videos of the grid race and my best time attack session but for now check this out from my afternoon lap session: -

@Morgey it sure is! hahahaha Actually my tuner fabricated this as a solid throttle pedal pivot mount. Because starlets (and all import vehicles) here need to be converted as required by law from RHD to LHD. These conversions are done in mass quantities by the local transportation department sometimes you get shitty conversions. In my case the throttle always felt like it was either on or off because of the shitty conversion. Small issue but it costs us a ton of time when racing. Turns out the current pivot mount is shit and flexes when you try to feather or do quick stabs at the gas pedal. So this is the solution my tuner came up with. We'll need to test it but I'm confident it will work.
