Bug679
Well folks just checking to see can ya change both seal on the gearbox when it's still on the engine ? And how do you get the cv joints out of the box to change them. Thanks
Turbo Goose
Take off the big nuts off each driveshaft at the hub end. Think they are 30mm get someone to press the brake pedal. You need to take off the bottom 2 bolts from the suspension struts on each side.Take the 3 wishbone nuts and bolts off the hubs. Then you should be able to tip the hubs do the driveshafts come out.The driveshafts should be out both hubs now sat on the floor. The green driveshaft cups are held into the gearbox on spring clips. You can either prize them out the gearbox and they will just pop out or give them a tap from behind with a hammer.Make sure the gearbox is drained obvs before doing this
Turbo Goose
Then just pull the old seals out the box. Tap the new ones in with an equal sized socket as the seals so they tap in nice and true and dont kink
5e colin
^^^^^ wow waaaay to much work !!!! undo the 3 12mm nuts from the baljoints and pull back a bit on the hub now just untap the inner cup out of the box with hammer and barr simples the whole hub/shaft asembly will move to the side to take inner cup out of the box if your going on a 2 post ramp then its a 25min job start to finish
daniel_g
Id do it slightly differently to the two of yous but yeah you can change the driveshaft oil seals with the box still in the car.Theres a special tool which makes popping out the seals easier but a good flathead screwdriver will do the trick Make sure the surfaces are clean and lubricated with some oil/grease before attemping to fit the new seals.I just use a 3/8 bar with a hammer to fit them. Ollieh17
Ive ways just undone the strut bolts to get the shaft out. Only two bolts then and dont run into any risks of stripping ball joints etc
