SpikeyJp_68
Recently bought a ct9 cheap enough but it has a cracked wastegate. I wondered if anyone could tell me if it's okay to use or not ? Sorry about the orientation of the picture Thanks in advance. Will get a couple more pictures later just took one quickly this morning

SpikeyJp_68
Yes should spin freely bud.I'll have to see can I get a video on YouTube or something, it spins but doesn't carry on spinning. I take it it'll need new bearings ?
akyakapotter
Possibly dude with the waste gate cracked as much as it is there would make sense to get one that's not that bad Ct9s are every where every one must have them hidden away in the garage some where.

SpikeyJp_68
That's spot on. Big thanks Colin and akyakapotter Edited July 2, 2016 by SpikeyJp_68
triple j
Looks just as bad as the one am running this min with no problems whatsoever, u can change the housing but I guarantee u that turbo will have no problems, it has most likely been running like that for a good few years, if u say the shaft is hard to turn its fucked it should turn easy and spin freely. SpikeyJp_68
I have it soaking in diesel (use it for cleaning all engine parts I presume it'll be okay) so hopefully it'll loosen up. It spins by hand I can use my fingers to spin it. Stops spinning almost immediately though. Must look at trying to get a YouTube vid up. Have sent an email to a rebuild place see how much a full rebuild is
triple j
It wouldn't keep spinning it will stop as u say just as long as it feels free and doesn't get stiff at any point of rotating it.

Starlet__SR
Its a journal bearing, not ball bearing so wont spin freely until its got oil pressure.

SpikeyJp_68
Got the compressor out today to clean it off ect and it spins and keeps spinning for a while when it's upto speed, so just the cracked wastegate now if I can get one. Thanks for all your input

triple j
That's a different story plenty of time to pick up an exhaust housing to have it right.
