J40k-mo
Has anyone got a tutorial of stripping the gearboxes down? Is it as simple as it looks with taking the bolts out and stripping the casings off? Or is there a special way and clips under certain bolts that need to be removed etc? Thanks
5e colin
hemm its not simple attal dont do your first if you havent a spare unless really competent make sure to lay out everuthin in order so it goes back right way ] just work your way down getting 5th gears of might be tricky ( brake ) after that the casing can come of
J40k-mo
Is 5th gear on its own in the end cap? Like 5th has to be taken out before the casing comes off? Also one box I just want to get the diff out and the other 5th haha, is the diff a straight forward job with the front casing off?
5e colin
kinda ya but getting the diff out without 5th coming off means fucking around with 2 hidden bolts inside there a real cunt to fit back if you have the tools then strip it completely

Mike-530
If you are anyway near leicester, i know a gearbox mechanic if you need? Charged 250 for a strip down and health check with new genuine input shaft bearings. Cheers

IF thats all your looking to achieve. The two bolts inside are shown on tuturials on TGTT or here maybe, and the are easy fitted back together if you fit the reverse selector very loosely using one bolt before reassembly Phil
aleximport25
When I replaced a broken centre housing on my box I found taking photos of every stage helps and like colin said lay everything out in the order it came off in
richardc9052
You don't need to touch the two bolts for the reverse selector of you remove the ball bearing it just slides out when you lift the bellhousing off, then slide it back in before closing box back up

gorganl2000
just on a side note...it may be best to double check the availability of the specific parts you need for you gearbox nowadays, as some things are discontinued
J40k-mo
Hello lads, I took end cap off and selector fork and everything is smashed to bits, I couldn't get the gears of the shaft though? Are they pressex on? And I have another box with a kaaz lsd in that I want to take out, I want to see what order the Plate are in. Has anyone got a link to the tutorial on removing the diff? And stripping the boxesI removed the Sir clip on 5th gear and the nut on the other gear but both wouldnt move, does that plate have to come off that's behind it? And take it all off together? 5e colin
you need good gear pullers to take 5th gear cog off the diff ( only ) tutorial is on toyotagtturbo.com >>>>>>>>>http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?83777-A-guide-to-fit-an-aftermarket-Quaife-LSD
Phil
You don't need to open the rear casing to remove the diff onlyIf things are smashed it's probably worth swapping the LSD into a good box and fit itPhil
