dpage Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 hey guys my fuel tank is soooo rusty after years off sitting i need a new one my mechanic has cleaned it several times but it's still full of rubbish ... any ideas where I can buy a new one ? (ep82 gt ) 1994 Quote
Ryncewind Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Is it actually rotten or just some shit inside it? Quote
Ryncewind Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 If the tanks just full of crap and surface rust inside, Go to a garden centre and buy a bag of smooth garden stones, or ball bearings, something along those lines, sling them in your fuel tank and shake it around with a friend, turn it over and do the same, this will smash the rust off the inside of the tank, then you want to get a POR-15 fuel tank repair kit, it will clean it inside and re-seal it, will be like brand new, paint the outside in hammerite or something similar while your at it to protect it. dpage Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 I've just been told I need a new or a descent second hand one . my mates doing all the work on the car Quote
Ryncewind Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 My 1981 Mazda had been sat for 14 years with petrol in the tank, I'm sure it will be repairable.Might be easier than finding a new tank, Just an option. Quote
dpage Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 yeah I'm finding it hard to find one bloody nightmare Quote
dpage Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 apparently it has a 3 inch hole in it lol Quote
morgey Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I needed a replacement one. Mine rusted and split along the rear seam, was leaking fuel all over the place. Strange thing is my car is pretty rust free otherwise. Stick an add in the wanted section and have a look through the breakers area on here 👍 Quote
Ryncewind Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 A 3 inch hole? Christ! You could try a repair company but they're expensive, i got a quote to have my tank refurbished by a company in leeds, they wanted 500 quid hence why i did it myself lol Quote
Ryncewind Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Yeah, Northern Radiators in Leeds, They were going to chop it in half blast it all and reseal it then weld it back together. Did it myself for about 80 quid all in lol Quote
Starlet__SR Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Around £160 the last time I checked. Best to ring Toyota to confirm. Quote
patman Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 £160 for a fuel tank seems bloody cheap new from Toyota if that was the going rate new I would even be very surprised 👍🏻 Quote
