Scoobysvx
Any one experienced there speedo being incorrect, showing 40mph on the dial but actually going 30mph... showing 85 but actually going 70.... obviously not in kph. Surely it can't be the dails or needle being moved as it'd stay 10mph out all the time if that was the case? On an auto boxThanks
BMX-RIG
My speedo was out for ages then gave up all together, turns out where someone had had the speedo drive off before and damaged the connection to the box, being cable tied on it slowly wore it away, swapped a new cable on a solved the issue, this was a manual box tho
BMX-RIG
As you can see it wore away and made it completely round
Scoobysvx
Thanks for your input, I'll check mine out and report back 👍
jeffrosie
Easy to pull off the needle with a fork and push fit it back.Turn speedo needle to 40mph and hold in position with fine needle nose pliers. Remove speedo needle with fork and refit at 30mph. Press firmly to make sure it's fitted properly Job done Go for a drive and check all is ok
Scoobysvx
This won't help my situation unfortunately as the difference increases the faster you go... if it was out by how you say then it would still be 10mph out at 70 odd rather than 15/20mph. If I am correct in thinking 😊
jeffrosie
Starlets speedo drive is mechanical. so the difference will be more the faster you go but not by much. Do the correction for 40 and then check with GPS at 30 and 70 which are the most common speed limits. At least you'll know what the errors will be. Also by readjusting the needle position on the speedo, the spring tension will change. So the errors may be even less.
morgey
They are usually a percentage out. My corolla is 10% out, 33mph speedo is 30 and 100 is actually only 90. Other than swapping dials for a different set i dont know any way to fix it. Bar changing wheel/tyre size
Scoobysvx
I understand that they'll be out but mine is as much as 25%. My other 4paw running the same wheels 50/15 was about 10% out like you say morgey which is fine. I have another set of dials but the car im having issues with is auto and I have manual dials, do you know if I could still used them to test with?
morgey
Speedo wise its mechanical but im unsure how the wiring sidebof things would be effected. You could just plug the drive in and see if it fired up and take it up and down the road maybe?
