Label the wiring loom, and put any nuts and bolts into labelled zip-loc bags.

Some drop it out of the bottom, but I used a crane and lifted it out. Once you've removed the bonnet it comes out pretty easily, everything will be much easier with a second or third pair of hands so rope in some mates to help.

as said, if its the first time, label everything, make sure everything is disconnected.

if youre only removing the engine, have something to support the gear box, if youre removing both, get some plastic bags to cover the driveshafts.

I've done it before by leaving the wiring loom on the engine and unplugging it from the ECU and pulling it through from the firewall, just make sure everything bolted to the car is unplugged (i.e. map sensor, brake fluid level sensor etc,

Just another option for you.

Make sure gear cables are well out of the way...

Bonnet off, few pipes and plugs off, exhaust off, drive shafts out, bish bash bosh haha. Not too bad of a job if you have access to a ramp or engine hoist. I have a hoist you are more than welcome to borrow if your local to Stoke.

Mate I'm literally in the middle of doing it and I'm by no stretch mechanically minded. Lifted it out with a crane, bit of a cock getting it out on my own as I found I needed to tilt one end to get it to clear with gearbox etc coming out in one but so far so good........putting it back on the other hand 😬
