Replacing stock 4efe inlet manifold with 4efte

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!! I'm new here and farily new to modifying cars too.

So I've got a 4efe starlet with a ct9 turbo slapped onto it. (everything stock, running fuel cut defender, fuel pressure reg, external wastegate)
The intercooler piping I currently have on the car is pretty bad and I've got a new FMIC and piping to swap over to. Only problem is that the piping is custom made to fit onto a 4efte inlet manifold as it sits roughly 40mm lower than the stock 4efe inlet manifold.

I have taken out the stock manifold to replace with a 4efte manifold that I have laying around. But there are many more plugs and hose connectors on this and I'm not 100% sure which ones I need to use and which ones I don't.

How exactly would I be able to installing the 4efte inlet manifold onto a 4efe engine.

Ive taken photos of the manifolds side by side and numbered what I think is the correct port or plug I should connect to..(eg, the Number 1 of the 4efte manifold is what I'd use for what was connected to the number 1 on the stock 4efe manifold)

Any help would be appreciated :)

I'm very interested in your build. Send me some pictures please. I can tell you that the tps (throttle position sensor) is totally different on 4efe but the good news is you can get a ae101 corolla ECU that will run this tps and it does not use a factory immobiliser.

There is a knowledgeable guy on here called brad ho might be able to help you set the manifold up. From his setup on his GT I can tell he knows exactly what he's doing.

you also need to run the air temperature sensor.

This on the 4efte inlet is the 2pin plug on the left side center if you check the resistance of both the 4efte and 4e at room temp and then warm them up in your hand and see if resistances match if they do just rewire to the 4efte unit.

The actuator on the side of the manifold is the idle control valve. There is a topic\thread on here recently were we covered removing this and setting up idle on the 4efte throttle body. This will also allow you to remove the coolant pipes to the throttle body that heat it up to thermostatic temp 89deg this will help you run safer. I suggest you follow this. It will not idle if you use the 4efte tps on the starlet ECU it's the idle switch voltage. But you can use the wot switch so adjustment of the tps will be different at first unit you run the ae101 98hp 4efe gen1 ECU.

What size injectors are you running (colour) and boost pressure im running a standard 4efe on a hyb tdo4 15t.

I bet the ct9 spools very fast on the 4efe.

I will find you the corolla part number there is 1x pin in the ECU to swap from the info I have here. But very easy install.

I can't get any further in to get a closer picture it's against a wall down the side of the house if you can't make out the numbers I'll get in closer when I've got time. I just need to clear it out.

Thanks for the replies guys :)
Yeah I think Im going to just swap over the throttle body from the 4efe and slap it onto the 4efte manifold. Only issue I see from that is that the 4efte manifold isnt as wide as the 4efe. Therefore I will have to shorten the throttle cable lol
I'll try tighten it from the engine bay and gas peddle, see if that works.

I'll post pics up once I take some hopefully tomorrow haha

Not a problem.

It would be good to see a how to on this way of boosting a 4efe\ build thread and cost.

From what I've read it seems most in the starlet world are not aware of this method.

Most I've talked to believe the only way is to use the 4efte ems and wiring.

Good to see further developments in the starlet community.

Of course there is the second set of injector oprouch on a pressure switch as well.

You really don't have a clue what you're talking about, second set of injectors on a pressure switch. Where is this pressure switch then?

Just look up hobs adjustable pressure switch. And a microtech fuel controller https://microtechefi.com/tech-tip-aux-injector-mapping/

This is one of many controllers dating back to the days of bosh kjet injection and the first efi setups.

And your welcome, if you would like to get involved in a topic it's better to message and ask advice rather than try and upset. I think we all know now how the internet works.

There is lots and lots of ways to tune people ho tell you this method is the only way. What they mean is this method is the only way I know, and it's normally followed by I can sell you this for £xxxx

The main differences are money\cost for extra power and fuel economy against power achieved.

Feel free to message me in the future.

From what I can see\read, I'm under the impression that the 4efe and 4efte throttle bodies have different shape base mounting plates but the bolt holes do line up. Watch for air leaks around the bottom of the 4efe starlet throttle body base.

I can not message by you. I'm very interested in your build if you could do a build thread this would be great to see a ,4efe setup on a fuelcut defender 295cc injectors and a fuel pressure regulator.

Lol pressure switch it the complete wrong terminology to use here. This solution would cost £££ but you would have much better control and safety with an aftermarket ECU. Totally cowboy method to tune.

No thanks, I don't need to message you for "advice"

You're not long on here and so quick to dish out "advice" to loads of people which is often useless, pointless, wrong or only backed up by this mystery man who had your car before you as if he wrote the starlet Bible.

And by the way, fuel cut defenders are absolute junk and only fit for the bin.

I can only work the mystery man out to be Chris Bover Ireland... he was the only starlet “specialist” in Manchester... and let’s be honest, we all know how that ended....
