Wrapping A Bonnet In Carbon Fibre

Recommended Posts

Had a car in yesterday at work to have a carbon fibre wrap done to the bonnet so thought Id whack up a few pics of how we did it (excuse the poor quality photos as I only had my phone and it doesn't do it justice at all!!)

Car is a 52 plate Scooby, firstly we removed the bonnet scoop and washer jets and then set about making sure its completely clean.

Laying the wrap over the bonnet, making sure it fits first!

With backing paper removed we then lay it on the bonnet and start to spatular it down, slow and steady

After laying the flat part of the bonnet we come to the edge where the vinyl starts to bunch due to the contours of the bonnet.

We then heat these areas and carefully stretch the vinyl down over the contours, I don't have pics of this as its a two man job. One to hold the vinyl taught and to stretch it over whilst the other does the heating.

After its been stretched it looks like this, same process over the headlamp areas aswell

Excess vinyl is then trimmed but leaving a small edge to tuck under the edges of the bonnet, it is then heated again to kill the vinyl "memory" so it stays there

The finished article after refitting the scoop and washer jets, the scoop will be done at a later stage

Took us approximately one hour from start to finish, the wrap actually has a slight raised texture to it aswell.

So if anyone has ever wondered how its done then theres your answer

Oh and just out of curiosity, how much was it to have it done?

We charged £140 including vat & fitting IIRC

Doesnt look a bad job in all honesty :o

I would be gutted when lifting it though and thinking this isnt carbon :D lol

Even more gutting when you lift the bonnet on this particular Scoob and discover its an N/A :p
