ste91
My radiator has been leaking for a while and I've been topping it up and the car has been ok, until tonight. There's now a bad leak, you pour water in the top and it just pisses out the front like a water pistol. And there's also some oil down the side of the block and a fair bit of oil splattered in the engine bay, a tiny bit has even leaked over the side of the wing, but I can't tell where it's coming from, I'm 99% sure it's the headgasket although might be the rocker cover but highly doubt that. The funny thing is it still runs fine - no knocking, I turned the engine off within seconds of the temperature rising so may have saved it but to be honest I think it might aswell have a new engine as it's got fairly high mileage anyway. What I'm guessing is that whilst driving around tonight the radiator has given up, the water has gone, it's overheated and just gone kaput. Even though it still runs... for now.I'm leaving it as it is until I sort something out, not sure what to do now though, new engine + rad, maybe an excuse for a 5E lol. Raz
You deserve to be banned :@ NOW!You can revive the engine mate. New rad, compression test to see if the H.G is gone or not. hope you didn't overfill oil lolHow much is 5E?
Asad
Don't be such a woose, bang a new rad on and see how she fares it's made in japan not france/ukOn a side note u don't get to wear the "I killled the FE" badge just yet this is just down to poor up keep still don't think anyones killed a well kept FE :harhar:
ste91
I think if I'd have replaced the rad instead of leaving it then it wouldn't of happened, but I haven't been able to because I've had no money. I hadn't even got money for a set of fucking spark plugs. :harhar:And no I didn't overfill the oil. Don't be silly.
Steve GT
its not broken till it goes BANG!!! :harhar:
Glanza-Love
ste you wont have killed the car.. not unless you drove the car with the temp guage sky high for about 20 minutes solid.
Nanglebadger
as ecksjay would say..."be fine, yes!"Phil.
Sparky
Mate, I have blown two fe's and a fte :harhar:To the point where they dont run, yours is fine
ste91
That's what I thought, new radiator, top the oil up and away it goes. But what about the oil that's splattered all round the engine bay? If anyone can remember Idrees' old Glanza when that happened, it looks similar to that but not as bad.
Sparky
Oil from the breather maybe? What happened to mine (fte), usually sign of piston/ring damage
ste91
Yeah I was giving it a good hammering before it overheated. I doubt it's from the breather, it's on the left hand side of the engine next to the cam belt cover, and oil has sprayed over the inside of the drivers side wing, behind the drivers side headlamp, and under the bonnet. It must have shot out with some force because it's trickled down the outside of the wing aswell. Now I've said that I've just had a wierd thought lol where the oil has sprayed is exactly where my old Starlet got damaged when some old twat wrote it off last year.I think it probably overheated and the useless temp gauge was just a bit slow to react. I'll see if I can borrow a compression tester from somewhere and see how it goes.
Steve GT
i know this might be a studid suggestion but is your oil filter on tight enough??I've just thought i knew someone once that was losing A LOT of oil he tried to figure it out for ages and apparently it turned out it was pissing out the oil filter under high pressure and spraying everywhere lol dont know how much truth is in that but its good to suggest things lol
Liam_D
lol you cant kill a FE it just isnt possible, they take so much hammer its rediculous. As said mate bang a new radiator on it and it'll be as good as new again.
keirz
is there any chance your dipstick could have not been pushed back in tight enough when you checked your oil.i did the exact same, it was pushed in but not all the way down and that left me with splats every where, including the outside wing
ste91
Hopefully going to borrow a compression tester tomorrow and see how it goes, if it's all good I'll just put a new rad on it and oil+filter change and it should be good to go.
ste91
Just got the car towed back to my house, tow rope snapped about a minute away so I just turned the engine on and drove it, seemed like it had fuck all power so I'm guessing the HG has gone.Being towed on a really short tow rope behind your sisters car, when you have no brake assist because the engine isn't running = scary.
