Depending on the make of the laptop , there might be a 'recovery partition' on his hard drive. On boot, press F8 and this will take him into the BIOS, OR whwn it loads, go into the PROGRAMMES (if its ACER - ACER Management and run the recovery from there.

HE WILL lose all data though so make sure he isnt worried about loosing any photos/letters etc.

IF he hasnt got a recovery partition, he will need the CD/DVD RECOVERY DISK and insert this into the drive and follow the prompts :-)

System restore... the virus will still remain.

You will have to re-isntall windows. Maybe buy a copy of windows 7 if you can afford one or just get another copy of Vista. Personally i would opt to go windows 7. The best way to get rid of a virus that has entered deep into the system files, is a fresh clean copy of windows. The virus effects system files which are mostly left unchanged in system restore, but you should obviously try that.

Once you get rid of the virus either by re-installing windows or somehow by system restore i recomend using Avira Antivirus as you can obtain a legal copy (full version) available to download.

as a technician i would go into safe mode run sys restore if you have made a restore point, if not the virus probly hit your registry files so need 2 reboot (quickest easy set way )

once you reboot download IPcop and AVG, also make 2 partitions so you save all your movies and music in one and everything else in the other and stop watching porn :p

lol wow kara surprised you know alot about comps :)
