Idrees Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 There are 2 Eids in one year. One is Eid Ul-Fitr after Ramadan, and the other is around 10 weeks later - Eid Ul-Adha It's like having Christmas twice :) Quote
ryan lang Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 ahhh, whats the 2nd 1 about then? for funs, or to celebrate something? Quote
Steve GT Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 yeh educate us about this one thenwhats it about? Quote
Idrees Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 At the end of the Hajj (annual pilgrimage to Mecca), we celebrate Eid Ul-Adha. This means 'Festival of Sacrifice'. Basically it is when we commemorate prophet Ibrahim willing to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with an animal to sacrifice instead. If you fo a quick search you can find the full detailed story on this topic. Anyway, the meat is divided into three parts to be distributed to others. The family retains one third of the share, another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbours, and the other third is given to the poor and needy. Here in England we will typically send money to a 3rd world country to buy an animal, which will then be sacrificed and will feed the poor. Any more questions, just ask. I'd live to attempt a good answer (to the best of my knowledge). Quote

starlet786 Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 what? ^^ why do you have them on different days? :S sorry again just curious lolwell some mosque's think they do it the right day and others thing they do it on the right day so its wich eva mosque u follow really.... its complicated someone with better info will add to it Quote
Kingcarr Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Is there a translation to eid mubarak?I love religions, but don't follow any! I was told to do the long course R.E gcse at school but I told them that I don't want to have to listen to thier shit bias views! Quote
Idrees Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Eid Mubarak means Happy Eid.It's a bit silly, we ALL wish that we had Eid on the same day. It's just one of those things though, nothing we can do. Some mosques think they should do it on the same day as Saudi Arabia, so basically Saudi celebrate according to the sighting of the moon over there, and we do it on the same day as them. However others think they should follow the closest Muslim country (Morocco), or even the sighting of the moon in their own country so will have it the day after. Quote
