td04 glanza
Went to check the water level in the gf's new glanza s today and the water is seriously rusty, the top hose is coated with rust on the inside also! I have dropped the water out it and Im going to flush the radiator through with warm water, any advise on getting all the water out the engine aswell? Has anyone had this before? Is it just due to the last owner not putting anti-freeze/proper engine coolant in? will it have done any damage? Thanks
ryan lang
wont have done any damage i dont imagine mate. you can flush the engine out with water too. leave the rad hoses on the engine, and point the bottom hose at the floor without kinking it, then put the hose in the top rad pipe ad let it flush through for a while until your satisfiedobvioulsy it will eventually re-develop as thats what happens when water and metal are in contact for long periods of time. just change it once a year and flush the engine and rad each time and all should be fine
daniel_g
Aye mate it will be alright, its probably not had a coolant change in a while. Just make sure its not contaminated with oil though.

Flaminsam
theres a coolant block drain behind the manifold. a 14mm i believe. may be worth draining that too.
Starlet__SR
If you're that worried, remove the thermostat, bolt the housing back up, fill the system with water, drop some of http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_255217_productId_211647_langId_-1?cm_mmc=Shopping-_-Google%20Product%20Search-_-Car%20Care%20%26%20Maintenance%2FCar%20Parts%20%26%20Spares%2FHead%20Gasket%20%26%20Exhaust%20Repairs-_-Bars%20Flush%20Cooling%20System%20Cleaner&source=shoppingin. Give it a good run, bearing in mind you're not running a thermostat so it'll take a while to warm up, not to mention run slightly richer. Once you've done that, drop the coolant again, flush with water, then fill up with the correct coolant, refit a new thermostat. Should give you some peace of mind.Day
