Idle Issues

yo guys and girls, still having a high idle issue

the symptons have changed since last time now though, last time, it was idling slightly high, and dropping when pulling up to junctions, so much that the oil light would flicker, lights went dim and it was close to cutting out

now, its idling really high, like 1700rpm, and then pulling up to junctions in nuetral it goes up and down between 1200 and 1700 rpm around 4-5 times then sits at around 1500-1600 rpm :/

im guessing with the fluctuations its an airleak, but i cant find the bastard!

any ideas boys and girls?

Have you changed/ cleaned the idle control valve? mine idles high 1.2-1.4k when warm and 1.5 when cold its odd but i put it down to being mapped. i take it playing with the idle screw doesnt work? next thing would be check the timing on the dizzy? (not sure if that would affect it)

You tried spraying some carb cleaner round all the inlet and pipes? You got free play in the throttle cable I take it. Advanced ignition would make it idle hight

going to check the ignition timing tomorrow and have a fiddle with the idle screw

but i dont see why it could be up and down up and down. ive tried 3 different idle control valves aswell

Try cleaning throttle body also check throttle position sensor & vac pipes ;)

Similar thing happened to mine, a little wd 40 on the accelerator cable and its not happened since

The valve bit on the bottom off the throttle body has given me troubles as well.

If its going up and down a few 100 rpm, i would try bleeding the coolant system for air. Easy to do and doesnt cost anything.

have you checked the TPS? make sure all wires are connected properly and get a multimeter on it to see if its working properly.
