dan106
Basically, coilys for starlets are expensive. And i really cant afford them. I lowered mine not too long ago and the shocks are already going.I was wondering if anyones tried getting coilys designed for another car to go on a starlet?Like the micra boys fit corsa b coilys. And i adapted some ford probe coilovers for the front of my 106.Anyone tried anything like this before? Edited November 11, 2012 by dan106

daniel_g
A while back someone mentioned they might try adapting lupo / polo coilovers. But i never heard any more about it.

hughes21
The thing is the Vw coilovers are mainly cheap shit best thing to do is just save up and buy a set of bc's or Meisters I got bc's of I'd works for £620 I think and there mega people say they don't go low but mine have the rears scrape quite a bit haha

Fozzie
I saw somewhere that someone had lowered a Paseo using the front coilovers from a Mk3 Golf, I assume they'd also fit a Starlet? Not sure what he did about the rears though, I don't think they were the same.
dan106
Im gonna try borrow a corsa b strut off someonejust to see how it lines up, i mean a full set brand new are like 150, i only payed 500 for the car, dont quite like the idea of spending more than that just on suspension, its worth a try to save alot of dough!Plus i enjoy making my own stuff work, my 106 coilys cost 50 so i was well happy with that achievement, hopefully i can do the same on the starlet

Weyro
Was thinking about this the other day. Maybe we going contact a cheap coily manufacturer and if enough of us put our name down they would do them.
TrisK
although i cant find a source for this mk3 golf coilover idea, having a set on my polo im looking at the standard shocks i have, and looking at photos of a glanza shock, and i cant see why a golf/polo 6n2 coilover wouldnt work. Weyro
Just had a look on eBay and you're right, it looks doable.
dan106
Damn why u so far away trisk! Ill have to see if anyone i knows got any laying about, getting them bolted in at the bottom should be alright, the top mounts are most of my worry
TrisK
if anyone wants to post me a starlet top mount i will see if it bolts onto my vw strut/springi have both 6n and 6n2 here so can definately work something out.they look like thisAnd you can leave/include that silver plate as neccasry depending on how the spring mates to the top mountobviously that is a vw top mount on the far left, so you wouldnt be using that
TrisK
ok next idea, somebody measure the diamter of the top of the spring on a starlet spring?somebody must have some lying aroundthis has some pretty detailed photos of dissambley./>http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=115492
Weyro
Im in Portugal at the moment, but when i get home i can measure mine if no one can.
dan106
Wish i read this earlier, had mine on the ramp to do my brakes couldve whipped it apart, should be getting it in again on saturday so if i have time ill do some measuring
StarletMad
Is it not just a case of measuring any part of the spring or is it tapered?
TrisK
I dunno. I'd measure the top. As it seems the most logical place as its where the top mount is going
Weyro
Once we figure out which is the most likely kit to fit im willing to be the Guinea pig
