cynosbob
as above what would be the best engine to fit into a starlet.not to pushed on a turbo would like it n/a. i was told blacktop wouldnt fit without cutting the chassis and since its going to be a road car i dont think i could do that.any suggestions welcome
morgey
It is doable without but you have to lower the engine right down then the sumps really low, my 4age has been in for 4 years now and its still fine. Been on track and the drag strip etc
daniel_g
2jz gte hahaNah seriously, ive seen 4age 20v, 3zz-ge, 3sgte and b16 lol. Lots of work involved in all those conversions, but time + money and you could have a really cool one off motor.
morgey
*2zzge but yeah all can be done. Was even an old member was considering a camry v6 swap lol
cynosbob
would love a blacktop in it.how much effort to fit it to your starlet morgey?need as much info as possable haha

daniel_g
Aye thats what i ment lol, from a celica 1.8. I remember the chat about that v6 swap, would have liked to have seen that one done. Last i heard he was putting a 3sgte + running gear in a ep95 !!
cynosbob
sweet il have a look threw it now sound.haha k20 ina starlet would be a sight.should of saying this at the start its a ep80 before people get confused thinkin its a kp..
morgey
That would still be epic but i have to agree, If someone put a k20/24 in a starlet it would be savage, even more so if it was in a ep70 fully stripped n lsd'd up! Would be absolutely rediculous

daniel_g
A nice spec'd N/A 5e like that JAM one would go very well.
cynosbob
and a 5e would be a resonably handy fit compared to others.
steve-gers
The best engine for a starlet is a 4EFTE
cynosbob
like i said doh lad id rather an n/a with some grunt yano
shorty
Im selling a silver top 4age levin atm, should buy it then you have absolutly everything youd need, looms, mounts engine ecu fueling etc etc
mech5107
The jam 5e i think was running on Keihin FCRs. Although a 5e N/A tunned will be very nice for the starlet chassis, but not usable anyday. For daily, 4efte...nothing else...
cynosbob
sorry lad im in ireland an unless your selling it dirt cheep no thanks haha..why wouldnt the 5e be for everyday use?
mech5107
A normal 5e is ok, also a light tunned 5e is ok. But the 5e similar to the one in the JAM car wil have no low end and the fuel efficiency will be poor. Also the N/A tunning cost a lot more than turbo...With a 4efte, add an fcd, an HKS actuator, second hand downpipe and exhaust and a front mount filter and you can have car running to 165ps with less than €500. cynosbob
im sticking to n/a anyway.or thats the plan for now anyway haha..
morgey
If you plan on n/a go with an engine that has potential to start with or atleast a version of that engine that has a performance version.4afe-4age/ze 20v etc 3sfe 3sge/te beams or 5sge buildZz series 2zzge 2zzgze 1.8vvt-li (supercharged one) or boost a 1zzfe 1.8 vvt-i5e's are ok and im sure you could get 130-50hp with the right bits but trying to find tuning bits past that would be hard and expensive for the n/a route. Where as the 4age 20v starts at 160ish mines 175 (give or take dyno readings) with intake exhaust and flywheel, minus aircon and power steering. And imo other than the lack of p/s theres nothing stopping mine from being a daily driver. So stick a mr2 speed variable elleccy p/s pump on it and you have a winner ;)So doing the same to a beams 3sge or 2zzge would make for a good reliable fast car. Will just cost more, but thats the price for being different!
cynosbob
heres where my trouble lies i cant pit in something that i will have to cut the chass yano.20valve would be what i would like over anything really.money and time arnt a huge issue really ive no problem doing it over the next year or two. to tell the truth its a throw between 20valve or sir but id like to keep it toyota.. morgey
If you can deal with a low sump then you can mount it under the chassis rail. But then you would have to have a 4-2-1 exhaust mani as my hks 4-1 is now lower than my sump lol
cynosbob
if it will fit i will go with it lad.surely be able toake some sort of sump gaurd..any wireing would be the next worry.to find some one here with the know how to do it right
