NightSpirit Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 That, is the definitive example of turbo stall. For those who don't know, it's when the throttle is lifted, the throttle plate closes on the inlet manifold/throttle body, the air bounces back and usually gets expelled via a dumpvalve...but, if you run a high pressure valve as I do meant for large boost, the air comes back through and hits the fins of the compressor side of the turbo, making that sound. It's NOT a bad thing, does add a small ammount of lag (marginal) but fine. Doesn't do the turbo any harm though. That's one of those big debates that can go on and on.I like it Quote
Sparky Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 WOW thats sounds amazing mate.....exactly what I would want mine sounding like!! Quote
rob_bower Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 h'mm i could learn to love that sound !!! Quote
NightSpirit Posted August 2, 2007 Author Posted August 2, 2007 THAT was the sound I've always tried to get...tried it on my MR2, even though a T67-25G through a screamer pipe was immense...it's just not the same thing. It's simple to achieve if you run the filter through the rad and out to the front bumper (fits just next to the Blitz FMIC). First time I drove it after the mod, I shot my duff, to be blunt. Quote
customep-82 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 this is turbo stall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSIf0IwdiK0 Quote
nathy boy Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 That sounds ace i want my gt to sound like that when i get it. Im not keen on dump valves. Quote
NightSpirit Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 What turbo pal??Stock turbo Gaz....and stock boost. If it ran higher boost it'd only get sexier lol Quote
paul w Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Mine is similar now but is higher pitched and sounds mental, that'll be the bar of boost i'm using now. Quote
muddyell Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I love the chatter soundNeilH glanza chatters and i fell in love lolLoads of cars at santa pod were 'chattering' so was awesome when they were on drag strip Quote
gaz Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Stock turbo Gaz....and stock boost. If it ran higher boost it'd only get sexier lolI had my bov off once and it sounded completely different, like this chirping noise which faded. Quote
StarletRick Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 you lot aint ready for mine... 1.8bar with no BOV. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA DAAA DAAA DAAAA DAAAAAA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Quote
NightSpirit Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 1.8 bar...now that's just silly Gaz, don't forget my air filter is mounted through the rad/bumper and that's what gave me the noise more than anything else. Quote
StarletRick Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 yeah, the shorter the intake piping the noisier the chatter is. but itll cunt up your boost if you take it up a bit. in the cold it creeps up quite a bit if you havnt got a leccy controller looknig after it. Quote
sl8ter & jett Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 wen i had my evo 5 alot of the boys on the mlr wer removing the dump vale and blocking up the pipes and they wher geting that turbo chatter .there was a big debate about how safe it was for the engine .there wher cars that where doing that for years with no probs but i dint fancy taking the chance my self cant beat that sound apart from when an rx7 passes you Quote
StarletRick Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 if you have ceramic blades in the tubby then there is a "small" chance you might have soem issues. if you have steel blades. then its save. i do not believe that air at poxy pressures can bend and shag metal to the point where the turbo would suffer. ive ran with turbos and no bov for a while, with no issues. Quote
gaz Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 The theory is not that it bends but creates resistance against the components. pressurized turbo air is actually very powerful as far as i know.but i think its ok, my turbo was gone anyway when i done it. Tobys been doing it for ages and his seems fine. Quote
NightSpirit Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 I think it'll be fine...been doing this sort of stuff for years so I'm speaking from experience Quote
