tatep82
i gather external is the screamer pipe and open at the end and makes a noiseinternal goes back into the down pipebut is there actually any benerfits from one another?matt
AdamB
Nope, none at all if the turbo is designed correctly
tatep82
thats what i wanted to here mate! just a shame i dont have the noise from a scremer as i have a internal kit
AdamB
I say that, but cheap turbo's won't offer the features of something which costs 4x as much. What turbo is it your using? Ultimately it's down to the size of the wastegate hence why people go external for something larger as the stock turbine housing can't accommodate such a large size. shorty
Internal is when you have an actuator on the side of the turbo that controls the boost. The actuator opens an internal wategate penny that vents the excess air to control boost. External is when you have a waste gate located before the turbo and is usually a lot bigger than an internal gate would be. The screamer is just venting the excess air to atmosphere hence the noise. Screamers can be run on either set up and an external kit that doesnt use a screamer is a plumbed back system. As a general rule external gates are better for holding stable boost and less likley to "creep" up from the set boost level. You can port out the internal gate and use a bigger penny to combat creep but as a rule of thumb external gates tend to be a quicker more stable boost control option. daniel_g
He has a EWG kit but the pipe off the EWG routes back into the downpipe. So you have good boost control but no jet noise lol.
tatep82
its only a td04 mate, which i will be running sounds like i have done the wrong thing in buying a internal kit, thanks for that dan! you said that much clearer than me
AdamB
If the dump pipe/screamer pipe just routes back into the downpipe that's fine, you just don't get such a loud asbo noise. If you mean the port on the manifold collector has been re-routed back into the downpipe meaning the use of an external gate isn't possible then that may well be a bigger problem. I don't know of many people that have even tried to run a td04 at max boost on an internal gate setup, it might well even hold fine boost fine with the right actuator since the mass of gas of a 1.3 compared to a 2.0L engine is a lot less. AdamB
Ah no that'll be fine mate, you still get the good boost control, the only thing you'll lack is the annoying noise lol.
Hawwy
Chop screamer off where joint is and shorten it, and weld the decat hole=Screamer sound
tatep82
Will that not ruin the flow of the gasses at all ?
tatep82
Alot of people have said the noise is annoying but why do I want it so much lolDoesnt it matter how long the screamer pipe is? Doesn't have to be a certain length to work Edited September 25, 2013 by tatep82
Glanza-Ben
The noise ain't annoying at all as you don't have to scream it every where it's only when your giving it hell it will scream
yaristurbo
I found it ok at low boost, sounds nuts when high revs in second
