Chris Green
My PC is infected with one of those fake security site Trojans. Tried a few things with no joy. I should also say I'm using windows 8. Tried booting in safe mode and using autoruns, no success. I'm giving Norton Power Eraser a go now. Have also tried system restore, the virus won't let it restore. Anyone got suggestions? I'm not a PC wizz, but know a few things.

corofin12345
download malwarebytes and run a full scan "free version".. it might work, it might not but that program is very good at removing malicious software

Chris Green
So far 22 objects have been found, compared to 0 on AVG. It's an absolute stinker, won't let me open most files. Most sites are blocked.

RobSR
Can't you just format the thing and start again? That's what I do if I ever have a problem.Hate Pcs and viruses lol!
Chris Green
Miib - I've tried the usual Microsoft stuff, but no good. Morgey - Running it now in safe mode, hopefully this will sort it. Rob - Really Really don't want to have to do that, got so many movies, photos etc I don't want to lose.
Addymk2
Some viruses pop up in the task manager as active programs, is it in there? Some require specific software to shift. Close anything non essential and then have a look in there for anything that looks abnormal.
Chris Green
I had a look in the processes last night, couldn't find anything that looked dodgy. If malware bytes doesn't work. I'll start closing windows processes and see what happens.

Chris Green
It didn't pick up anything new in safe mode, but I cleared the quarantine in SM, and that seemed to so the trick. Going to run a system restore back to last week, just to be on the safe side.
