Back in the day I used to use cubase for composing and mastering fruity loops acid pro for beats and layering and soundforge for sampling but theres probably way better software nowdays

My mate just got a 16 track recorder thing and that came with a basic version of cubase, a full copys a few £££ still so I imagine its fairly good.

I've another mate who might be able to reccommend something as he tinkers about with production when hes bored.

Fruity loops is gonna be your easiest starting point, Ive never used logic or reason but obviously they're all useabale just fruity loops is a bit easier to get into from basic knowledge, personally I use cubase which i wouldn't recommend to use for making music unless youve used it before for other types of things...late reply ey
