thorpy36
Hi guys I'm just weighing this up and I'm after some opinions from you guys.I have recently blown multiple leaks in the hard water lines that are on the back of the CT9 turbo. And it keeps happening with the new ones I replace them with. I was considering taking them off for a couple of reasons.Reason 1- a turbo which core has a temperature of anything around 350 - 500 degrees when running surely the water that is going through the turbo is going to instantly turn to steam and have no cooling effect and potentially cavitate the water pump due to air locks. At current when the pipes split on the turbo it is only steam that is coming from them anyway.Reason 2- there are lots of turbos on the market that do not have water cooling and are cooled solely on the oil feeds. So why would this turbo not do the same.Like I said I would really appreciate some advice on where I go next Because I'm getting pretty tired of changing these pipes knowing they are going to fail again. Thanks in advance. DevonGT
Not had a CT9, but I've never run water lines on a TD04.
mikey4410
U dont want the heat of a turbo going to to the engine.then the arguement may well be that the oil gets hot.thats when u buy an oil cooler..lolan "overheated" td04 costs 50 quid to replacean over heated engine costs a bit more than 50 quidI havent ever run waters on my td04s and works beautifully.Wouldnt run waters ever.no need Edited January 1, 2014 by mikey4410
daniel_g
You can just run a loop round the water outlets on the TB, i have a TB off a N/a engine which doesn't have the ports.

AdamB
Water won't boil and turn to steam because its in a closed system under greater than atmospheric pressure. There isn't really much need for the water cooling as oil acts as a cooling method as well as lubricating. Its mainly for those people that use their vehicles as road cars and don't want to sit there for 2 mins while the turbo maintains a stable temperature after a blast.
