Krissyb
Update: Just a little bit of an update really, not much has been done on the car for over a month, the tax and MOT run out and I was using the Ducati so the old girl had a rest after the ring. One major issue was the rear calipers that needed unseizing and the discs and pads replacing along with new Braided lines as the old ones are not great. This is what causd the fronts to fade so quickly at the ring. I didn't get many pictures of my progress as Abbott is due to come over next week and give the calipers another bleed with me and also replace the lines along with painting the calipers and cleaning everything up. Big thanks to Iddy and VF22 Jamie for the parts here's some piccy's and lots to come as I am competing in TSS at Snetterton and also going on a track day this Sat. I also gave the headlights a quick mop :-)

Krissyb
Update: Well over the last week I've been getting the car ready for Asda Charity track day, the track day is strictly a private event where people jump in your car for a lap round Bruntingthorpe and all the money goes to chairty. There are loads of different car clubs there but only 2 little Starlets :-) Myself and Abbotts. Giving her a clean before Sat: At the petrol station with my mates RA.... only done 3 laps and went pop New Harness and Steering wheel also fitted Set off at half 5 and met Abbott along the M25, met up with the P1 owners club, whose stand I was on but not in the P1 . We parked up at around 8:30am and then took the bits out of the car ready for some sighting laps. Considering the Starlet needs Coilovers a Diff and some big brakes she performed really well without any issues, I went out for about 30minutes before coming back in for a break and watching Abbott in his 317bhp beast go out and shock everyone at the airfield. Within 20minutes the queue for his car was silly and he gave it the beans for most of the day and again his car was faultless. The difference between his car and my car is night and day . However I still enjoyed going out and having a blast. In the afternoon I deceided to go out for another bash and spent another long period out on track getting quicker and quicker, had a few little moments over the S bends but nothing the little Starlet coudn't handle. Anyways she's now parked up back at home ready for HEL Front and Rear lines, Camber bolts and a general shakedown before TSS Round 4 on Saturday 16th August :D . I also have some more powdercoated bits to fit and have some pics of the bits I have to fit. I'll also chuck some up of the Asda day and a few videos in due course . Krissyb
any videos of the track action mate? Got a few laps in mate and really improved my times but killed the engine yesterday. Time for a forged build.

TimD
What caused the engine failure?
Krissyb
ahh gutted another 4e dies, make sure to leave the sand out of this one!LMAO, Rob Barnard is building this one ;-) learnt alot since then. No sand included in this new one. What caused the engine failure?God In all seriousness I think the initial problem occurred last weekend at Brunty airfield. Went out for approx 30mins and could hear a small noise from the bottom end. I mentioned to James that I think I'm going to have to refresh the old girl asap. Anyways the noise then seemed to dissapear in the afternoon and then came back and vanished again. After 3 laps of Snetterton and then the 4th killer lap it knocked alot and the engine died. It's either a bearing or its cracked the skirts on the pistons judging by the noise. Until I get the engine out I'm not going to know but I'll keep the thread updated. I'm assuming it wasn't oil surge or the oil getting hot as I have a Rob Barnard baffled sump and a decent oil cooler. Never lost oil pressure either even when it expired. I'm hoping to do get the engine forged , nice port and polish job on the head and leave it until I have diff, brakes , coilovers. Bean
Sounds like a good plan mate!hopefully that bottom end isn't too bad and you can save the crank.I recently came across the receipt for my forged 5e Dave B built for me, cant believe how cheap that was looking back for a cracking engine. Krissyb
I'm not going for big power mate so it's not going to be a silly cams and inlet and all that jobbie. I have the p1 for that so hopefully it'll stay reasonably cheap.
Liam_D
Was with mike gamble yesterday and he was asking about possibly sorting a turbo out for you? I told him to pass my number on if you need one sorting? Gutted to hear about the engine failure dude

Bean
good pics mate, shame about the engine. should make some good usable power with that turbo you have when forged though.
Krissyb
good pics mate, shame about the engine. should make some good usable power with that turbo you have when forged though. Hopefully mate maxed injectors out @ 1bar on the little td04 greddy so bigger injectors and some nice boost would be great.
Bean
Ive got some 525cc Fuel Injector Clinc ones if your interested? they've done 4-5k miles tops. I bought them brand new from America. Your plugs will need changed to fit them, or use adapters easy enough to sort. http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/78373-dta-loom-coil-pack-dizzy-removal-kit-vf35-and-prices-lowered/ i would knock a bit off the price. Krissyb
UPDATE: Today Abbott was kind enough to remove the engine while the car is still at Rob Barnards place. Lots of pics and they kind of do all the talking. Hopefully Rob will have the engine stripped down within the next few weeks I'll have all the nice rusty bits powdercoated and the bolts zinc plated ready for a nice install once it's all finished.
