Ollieh17 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) Really scaring me. Happened a few months ago but went away and now its back. Only happens under acceleration. Makes the steering wheel wobble toohttp://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u578/Ollie_Haynes/EFD4CA3A-8098-4561-84D7-AE5E6C9DF92E-18624-00000BC44BCB9EE3_zps4c509949.mp4 Edited March 4, 2014 by Ollieh17 Quote
dangeestarlet Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Wheel loose? Wheel bearing? Maybe gearbox? Quote
Zeldoz Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Holy balls that's rough! It's not the bottom end? Quote
Ollieh17 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Nope only happens in gear. Tightened wheel, dismissed wheel bearing as only happens under throttle Quote
_shaun_ Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Is it only under throttle or at high speeds aswell? If its at high speeds and you drop clutch does it disappear. And if its under throttle does it do it if you just rev the engine while in neutral? Quote
Ollieh17 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Yeh disappears with clutch down. Doesnt do it in neutral Quote
_shaun_ Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Sounds absolutely horrid on video. You would get a whine from the release bearing in neutral if it was that. I'd be tempted to jack the front up stick it on axle stands and bang it in 1st get someone to accelerate while you try pinpoint were the noise is coming from Quote
Ollieh17 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Rotaboost, the sound went away for a month. If it was something internal in the gearbox id expect it to be constant? Quote
akyakapotter Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Its non lsd by the way. still has a diff bud Quote
Ollieh17 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 I know dude wrote it before i saw rotaboosts comment Quote
mccartney11 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 could it be the CV joint? mine clicks when I'm just cruising and that is the cause, and it went away and came back too....best way is do what was said above, get her on stands and go underneath with someone accelerating in gear Quote
Ollieh17 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Yeh cv seems to be the most obvious thing Quote
Ollieh17 Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 took it to a garage and its a knackered cv joint. Both the inner and outer boots have tears. The garage recommend replacing the whole driveshaft is this necessary or will replacing the outer cv joint fix the issue? Quote
yaristurbo Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Just the joints mate if it is haven't watched video yet Quote
Ollieh17 Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Do GT Turbo Shafts fit a glanza? I think im going just swap the driveshaft as both boots were knackered and chance the inner joint may not be healthy Quote
Tercel-R Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Just replace the whole shaft. If you're taking it to a shop to have the work done, by the time you pay for all the parts, new boots, labour, etc you'd probably be spending that much anyways. Quote
Ollieh17 Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 i can get two shafts from a gt for £60 so most likely going to do that. My fear is the spline count may be out and i'll be left with no car for another week Quote
euanTbone96 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 i have the same problem mate. when i accelerate i get a horrible friction noise as if somethings scraping or rubbing! did you pinpoint what this was? was it the cv joints in the end? thanks Quote
