Knock sensor wire

Recommended Posts

Please please please, if anyone knows, if your facing the engine and your looking at where the loom comes out from the ecu (half way down in the middle of the back wall) what way should that black wire go to the left side (alternator side) or to the right ( gearbox side) almost finished my full engine rebuilt and for dear life cannot find the KS wire everything else is in place, got the ecu off today and the black wire is there pin 23 on the ecu but can't find it at all in the engine, and can only think there was never one on there as knock sensor it's self is there with a split wire in it, ooooor can I just do my own wiring from pin 23 to the knock sensor any info on this would be fantastic as it's driving me nuts

Thanks Pat 👍

Old post I know but are you or anyone else 100% sure the knock sensor wire is coming where the thermo housing is, I just need to know what sensors it comes out with still having trouble finding it even though had my loom out yesterday and it's deffo in pin 23 the black wire 👍

The knock sensor wire comes out of the loom by the injectors at the cam pulley cover end. Its normally a black wire shielded with blue insulating over the top. Look where the brake fluid level sensor wire/boost control wire/earths seperate off from the loom at that end of the head. You may need to take some of the wrap off to find it - they do break there quite often. If your fixing it make sure that the shielding continues right to the end by the plug and doesn't earth to anything at the engine end (its connected to sensor earth just up from the ecu).

The wire down by the thermostat housing is the cat sensor or narrow band o2 sensor

You have nailed it on the head stu mate thankyou so much haven't checked yet as cars stored away at the moment but I had a funny feeling it came out of the injector end bit and I will get searching next time I'm down there, I only found all this out when I looked under the car months ago to see there was no knock sensor wire, then took the speedo cluster out only to notice there was never a bulb for the engine management light, (there is now, as I do everything how it should) funny thing was the car always ran good but thankyou stu for your help and you dan mate 👍
