Josh@TunerLifestyle
Hey guys, was doing a few odd jobs on the car yesterday and noticed i have an oil leak! quiet a few drops of oil on the floor after parked up for 10 mins so its something i need to look at. From underneath its dripping from the car cover side of the sump right under the crank. From above there looks to be oil getting flicked up onto the side of the cam over and even little bits on the rocker cover, i think it may be getting on the belt too as it squeeled when i drove it this morning... im guessing crank seal but i wanted to get your opinions on what it may be? any common leaks etc? any advice or info is appreciated! Cheers Josh
patman
It's either crank seal or sump mate wouldn't think its anything else
H_D
^ could also be camshaft or rocker cover seal behind the cambelt cover. Edited July 24, 2014 by H_D
TD04HYBRID
Sounds like the camshaft seal behind the cover
Josh@TunerLifestyle
i have recently resealed up my cam over as that was leaking on the other side last time so i dout it is but over the weekend ill whip off the cam over and maybe even the aux belts and have a proper look if it is the crank seal, is it a large job to do? Not 100% sure on this one guess you have to take the cam out and replace seal cant see it being a massive job
maddox710
I found that the cam cover gasket was a pain to stop leaking in the end I just used a new gasket and loads of silicone. Made sure that sucker was clean first. Use brake cleaner
H_D
use a sealer on the cam shaft seal and make sure its dry and free of grease.2 minute job once the cambelt cover is off.
Josh@TunerLifestyle
ill let you know how i get on. i used a brand new gasket and loads of silicone sealer when i did my rocker cover fingers crossed it is only something small
Josh@TunerLifestyle
Redid the cam cover and cam seal and still not fixed.. So guessing its the crank seal. Anyone know of any guides to do this or know how to do it? Can i do this myself with basic tools?
Josh@TunerLifestyle
just looking at the configuration of the starlets engine and maybe it could be the oil pump seal has gone or something like that... think its a little bit too big of a job for me
patman
If I was in this position mate I would get some brake cleaner so every part of the oil is off and the engine where oil was is clean etc then turn engine on and leave it on ideal and try locate where the leak is coming from 👍
