dangeestarlet
Hi , want to change my engine but don't really wanna take shafts out etc, can I remove it and leave the box in ? Thanks
richardc9052
It's easier to leave shafts in and take out box and engine together. Just take the clip off the inner cup joint and unbolt either the ball joint or shocks from the hubs and the shaft and ball bearings should come out of the cups meaning they stay on the car ;)
dangeestarlet
Thought so il just do it and remove everything like I normally do, just thought it would of been quicker to save undoing bottom baljoints etc
5e colin
na if you have an engine hoist then its easy just undo all the crap an enginemount hold it level at hight with the crane wiggle the engine to drivers leg as far as you can then start hoisting upwards slowly pulling box and engine open top end of box and hearbox will open hold the box by hand and jack away
Idrees
More hassle than it's worth IMO.

richardc9052
It's more awkward to take the gearbox out on its own than to lift the whole lot out so I'm guessing it's the same the other way around
daniel_g
jeeez are you guys greasmonkeys or not :pI like working efficiently and effectively, i find taking it all out in one works better
5e colin
????? efficient it aint its way faster my way , then ripping out the box and all you need to jack up the car wheels of joints loose open the inner cv boots by that time the engine is alread coming out lets say 10 min more then that and its out i think it all lays with experience ha ha now im just pestering you guys lol :)
_shaun_
Done it a few times and id say its Easier to take the lot out. Just leave the green cups in the gearbox and driveshafts in the hubs trying to wiggle the engine out with the gearbox still in place its fairly tight and its only a few extra bolts to remove the gearbox
