Polson2k9 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Hi, just got a new intercooler fitted and now everytime i put my foot down in 3rd gear and get to about 5-6k revs the car judders like mad, like backfires but wants to keep going? Any idea what this could be? Was working fine before with the other intercooler... Quote
akyakapotter Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 If you had stock intercooler your now hitting fuel cut if it feels like your hitting a brick wall. Quote
Polson2k9 Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 Yeh it does judders like mad but it still keeps going when i put the foot down and just does the same again. Any way to prevent this? The exhaust also makes a loud pop when it happens aswell. Quote
Matt1878 Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Fuel cut. The boost is creeping above 0.8 bar.If you have an adjustable actuator you need to turn the boost down a little. Quote
Polson2k9 Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 I have a hks actuator but dont think its adjustable Quote
daniel_g Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 With this cold air its gonna be especially hard to keep the boost from spiking to fuel cut levels on a CT9 setup. The HKS actuator is threaded so wind it down a bit and see if that helps, although probably not, CT9s are bad at regulating their boost the wastegate is very small, you could try porting it out a wee bit. But the exhaust housing might have a few cracks like most of them so i wouldnt bother.Things you can do are restrict the air getting in, like move the filter back if its at the front. Also put a bung in the exhaust.Could also go down the route of having a FCD put in but not many people on here like them, they have a bad rep for blowing up engines when the fueling has not been adjusted afterwards. Polson2k9 Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 How do i wind the actuator down? Sorry clueless about cars lol Quote
Matt1878 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 How do i wind the actuator down? Sorry clueless about cars lolAll HKS actuators are adjustable. The length of the arm depends on how much boost you run. You need to with unbolt or unclip the arm and then make the arm longer to reduce the boost. I may be wrong but I think there is a guide on hereAdjusting the arm to 128mm will run 0.5 bar124mm is 0.8 bar Quote
Polson2k9 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Adjusted the actuator but still wants to boost upto 1 bar. Would a manual boost controller help? Quote
Matt1878 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Adjusted the actuator but still wants to boost upto 1 bar. Would a manual boost controller help?I hate them. Are you sure you have adjusted it correctly? Quote
Polson2k9 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Yeh its been extended alot. It starts off slower than it used too but when i put the foot down it still managed to get to 1 bar. Was boosting at 0.6 before Quote
ROTABOOST Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 A manual boost controller can only up the boost from the standard wastegate pressure. You'll have to adjust the wastegate itself to bring it down. Don't use a FCD, they are dangerous in the wrong hands lol Quote
Polson2k9 Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 How do i adjust the wastegate mate? Quote
ROTABOOST Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Sorry mate, only just seen this. You need to crack the lock nut off on the actuator rod and wind the rod out. Don't go too far though otherwise the gate will always be open and you'll have no boost at all. Quote
The Toffinator Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Go as slack as you can on the actuator mate to run the lowest boost, But yeah as above make sure its got some tension to hold the penny shut! Quote
