TimD
It's not oil level, it's oil pressure. If the light comes on when you're driving, you're in trouble.
StuDoc 72
Low oil would only cause this to come on if there wasn't enough in the system to pressurise it.
lukEp
Oil light on while your diving is to late. Damage already done.

glanza ep91 23
Sorry i thought it was oil level not pressure and the light was never on i just thought it was broken and theres no damage to engine because i topped it up when it was at the low level of the dipstick thanks lads sorry for the misunderstanding. Ep82gi
Do you mean that the oil lights on before you start the car? Presuming this goes out once the car is running?
glanza ep91 23
Ya my car is fine i just though it was for oil level, it was my misunderstanding thanks

AdamB
It is kinda related to the oil level, not enough oil means lack of oil pressure and hence light can come on. How low did you run it on oil? I think the light comes on at approx 7psi of pressure, which is too late and damage has already been done.
Ollieh17
Depends what sort of driving you are doing at the timr. My oil light came on idled for a bit and coasted into work car park. Inspected bearings and crank and no sign off issues engines still going
StuDoc 72
Damage definately isnt already done or what would be the point of a warning light LOLObviously if the light comes on and u keep driving you will fuck your engine. Most likely thing to happen if you are low on oil or pressure is it may flicker as u turn a corner if you stop the engine and take proper precautions ( check for major leaks, top up oil ) the engine will be fine.Thats why cars have warning lights instead of stating the obvious lights.
