Turbo noise question

Can someone explain how my old starlet ( pretty much standard apart from a cat back and a filter ) was louder spooking up and fluttering than my current gt ( lots of mods but the main ones effecting noise , full decat , screamer pipe ,tdo4 running 1.4 bar and relocated filter on a short pipe ) . Doesnt bother me just was thinking about it and to me it would make more sense if my current gt made louder turbo noises running a bigger turbo with more boost and no restrictions in the exhaust :S

Did you have an air filter on your old setup? A lot of people mesh the turbos and its makes a lot louder! I always recommend running a filter though.

Haha i like my turbo to much to do that although i know it sounds mint , someone should come up with a idea to make it safe to do that

Ct9 seem to flutter pretty loud, as the noise is higher pitched than the td04.

A long steel pipe to the air filter will create a bigger echo so it will probably make it a bit louder.

It was so loud in the gt because of how close the air filter was to the cabin, I've relocated it and it's well quiet if you have the window closed

Ahhh that sounds exactly the same deal with mine because the filter is right by the front bumper . How is the old girl?

Running meshed td04 on mine internal wastegate and no blow off valve has a nice chatter out of it, will be changing it soon though as going external wastegate setup

She's running 145bhp, had a few bits go wrong but behaving well for a 20 year old car

Fair one thats good to hear and id love to run mesh but dont want to bugger my turbo
