  1. While I haven't done a conversion, its been playing on my mind for a while now.

My reasoning is that if you enjoy your n/a and have an attachment to it fair enough but if you want power then by all means do the conversion.

    some people will list pros for doing it such as;

    owning a sleeper,

completing a conversion to really learn about there car and its engine.

    increasing the car's power.

getting over the inferiority complex of not having a front mount....

    Some cons are as follows;

the expense of the conversion parts themselves

    Increased cost of insurance.

time and effort involved in doing the work at all.

    What each person who considers the conversion needs to think of the following;

What is their expectations for the conversion?

Will the cost of the performance increase be acceptable for the increase of perforance you actualy get.

people need to answer these questions then the conversionwill be worth it for them

  2. Well I went about fitting the brace yesterday.

Happy to say its 90% on now, must just tighten up the bulkhead bolt when my bro gives me my sockets and stuff back

Unfortunately it wasn't an easy fit or a direct fit. the metal of the end links was a little high and was catching on the frame of the bonnet when closing the bonnet.

    The Solution??

I got the my trusty persuader (the hammer) and beat a half golf ball size part of the frame in, in order to close the bonnet. Thankfully it doesn't appear to have damaged the profile of the bonnet so it's all gud.

It does seem to turn in a shade quicker (Although im not using it fully yet) and for sum reason a vibration off my cooling panel and bonnet is now gone....Added bonus.

Here are sum photos of the job

  3. well worth it there awesome!!

Yeah it seems to be making a difference already.

They are Epic braces, just very very expensive

Yes they are expensive but until you've held one then you don't appreciate it properly, the welding is stunning and it's light as a feather.

Git it bolted to the bulkhead :p

    Stunning piece of kit

That was the plan for yesterday, but I ran out of time so I stioll have a little left to do.

    Looks mint mate :p

    thanx

    stunning peice of kit!

Nath and Nic have good taste!

    Phil.

    Cheers boss

  4. Well its been a while since I did any work to the starlet other than driving the bollocks out of it, so with that in mind I though that it was long overdue sum TLC and mods more importantly.

A few weeks back Starlet Nath started selling off the parts from his build, while I had always liked keeping track of his build I was suprised to see his build come to an end,

But every cloud has a silver lining.....Nath was selling sum parts that I've always wanted namely a okuyama Carbing 3 point Aluminum strur brace.

The brace in question is to my knowledge not very common, in fact correct me if im wrong but the only other one fitted im aware of was on MC CHU's purple glanza.

With that in mind I bough the brace and it arrived this morning along with a whiteline 22mm front ARB,

Here are sum photo's (if photobucket works for me, if not Ill fix it 2night) of the brace fitted loosely to the top of the strut mounts.

I will fit the brace tomorrow as im off work then and will update with proper fitted pics.

  5. My Carbing 3 point brace & front 22mm ARB arrived today just as described and in flawless condition.

Nath was very helpful and easy to deal with and patient also after I f**ked up the paypal...

Shipping took a mere 3 days from his place to mine in the south of Ireland a new record....usually a week...

In general im delighted with the service and parts, I would buy off Nath again in a shot if I needed anything else.

  6. cheers lads!

@Nic - I believe Ryan V (TTE Starlet) gave it to Jay in exchange for something else. It is a stock item that Ryan spent approx. 20hours smoothing down to the finish that you see in the picture. he even did the underside, but most importantly he did NOT touch the internals of the rail, it is merely cosmetic.

i can take additional photos over the next few days if you like. as Jay has said to me, its a shed load cheaper than the HKS rail and will look pretty much as good! i plan to give it a good goin over with autosol prior to fitting to really bring it up.

    Phil.

Really a stock fuel rail ??? thats an immense amount of polishing, Fair dues to him,

Ya man if you could take sum more pics of it that would be great...

by the way build is coming along well.....Bet you cant wait for turbo??

  7. Well I just thought that I\\\\\\\'d do a little update of my ep exploits of late.

Firstly I had my NCT (Irish version of the UK mot) earlier in the month,

so I serviced the car ....changed the sard oil filter, chucked in sum castrol oil, changed the iridium plugs, cleaned the TRD airfilter and fitted a new rotor arm and dizzy cap. Also had the headlights aligned.

Lovely result running smooth and cool,

So off I went to the test and guess what IT FAILED......apparently play in the rear drivers wheel bearing,

went and bought a new bearing and me and my bro went to fit if (He does all my modding work that requires experience with cars as he\\\\\\\'s an ex panel beater), when we went to remove the old bearing it was in perfect condition AND there was no play in it, so we tightened it up a tad and put it back through the test.

    RESULT???????

    IT PASSED........

So onwards with the mooding again.

Here's a new cooling panel I made and finish painting yesterday.

    disc.jpg

Also Pics of the Tacho im using.....its dinky but does the job.

Also fitted a new halfords heavy duty battery with 510 amps so its a third as strong again as the oem toyota battery

Also added pics of the reflect lights I added a bit back

  8. Hey mate

    Looks well and different imo,

Tell me whats the quality of those wings like, are they flared wider or standard and how strong do they feel??

Sorry for all the Qusetions but im interested in a set

    Nic

  9. Hey mate

Firstly Dave Burwash was selling one before xmas, maybe you could source one from him or give him a shout him to track one down,

Yes you need a variable rpm switch with to use to activate the solenoid I believe. it gets confusing to explain.

I know of a thread that explains it better Give me a few minutes to find it.....

As for porting, thats definitely sumthing worthdoing....... BUT I wouldn't touch an acis intake system until I felt confident,

Buy a dremel and a few porting and polishing kits of the net and practice on a different intake and your chosen Throttle body when you feel braver..

  10. if your getting a new battery these are the ones to find

    Drivemaster

    Yuasa

Bosch--- these are the best nes imo

all come with 3-4 year warrenty

    Ok these sound interesting,

now Ive heard of the bosch but never heard of the other 2, how well do they perform & what price range are they in (more or less then the halfords)

  11. Hey, i explored into getting the odyssey or red/yellow top...mines seems to have got better since but i read this review which kinda helped...look for one with higher CCA (cold cranking amps) which should help in the great british winters.

    http://www.autobatteries.com/faq/index.asp

    Thanx lads

Ya I've been looking into getting a yellow top battery alrite but they're big money so I may hold off till the end of the month (the OE battery should make it that far) when Ive to put the EP through its NCT (Irish MOT) as I need to done a few odds and ends to it first for that.

On a side note I checked my toyota battery and it has a CCA of 330, this does seem kinda low when compared to the batteries I was looking in halfords.
