  1. hey mart

while I don't use coilovers my advice would be to try and get them set up again from scratch and give a bit of time,

As for where to get them set up is anyone's guess around cork man, maybe try predator motorsport in tralee if your willing to travel a bit, they fitted my konis originally and they did a decent job of that at least, plus i believe that they do motorsport preparation on cars also which may give them more experience with setting these up

  2. hey everyone

the recent spell of cold weather has highlighted that my genuine toyota battery is getting on a bit and is proabaly in need of replacing.

Now I've always wanted to upgrade to a really heavy duty battery such as the optima yellowtop batteries, but the otherday I was in halfords and saw that they have heavy duty batteries also.

Has anyone one here used or is using their batteries and what is your opinions on the batteries that hallfords stock?

    cheers for any comments

    Nic

  3. There are no british companys that do performance brakepads for the rear that im aware off mintex do their stock replacement or you could get some performance ones from rhd or Toy Tunning etc

Discs usually rear discs that need studs come with stud in so would imagine they will!!

Yes braided lines replace all the rear piping with a flexible braided line!!

    Hope that helps

    Rob

Ya Rob was thinking that alrite about the above points, I was was kinda leaning toward some jap brand pads such as sard or the project mu that Rick has actually.

    Thanx mate

i think i have a set of brand new Project Mu rear pads at home... somewhere. i shall try to find them if you want them.

and as for rear lines, talk to dave burwash, he has lines custom made, and they are win. get some.

Ya Rick I mite be interested in those pads if you can find them, price dependent also.

yeah i have the dave b braided lines and they are good quality

I was looking at them alrite the other day they do look nice, decent enough price too.

Are you swapping over a full axle or doing it seperate Nic?

Well Mart Im swaping over the disc's parts on to my existing N/A axle For one reason only; Cost

The cost of getting a V rear axle off breaker here in Ireland was crazy IMO, they were qouting me 350 to 400 euro undelivered for a complete unit.

I felt that there had to be a cheaper way of doing to conversion and 2 weeks ago I found my answer: I found the whole kit pictured in my build thread on ebay, bought and delivered to Cork, Ireland for 204 euro, my bro's an ex panel beater and does all my mechanical work so it doesn't bother me about the extra bit of work involved as I don't have labour costs.

  4. I've just purchased all the basic parts needed to convert my N/A to disc brakes at the rear and have a few questions for those that have upgraded their rear brakes,

    Pads

What pads are a worthwhile upgrade for the rear if at all, these pads should be suitable for road usage?

    Discs

I've decided to opt for the 3G 10 groove rear discs but I want to know since the rear discs act as the rear hub do the 3G discs come with new studs fitted or will it be necessary for me to fit a set of studs to them?

    Braided brake lines

Am I rite in the assumption that any set of braided lines replace the 2 rubber hoses and the metal hard pipe with 1 single braided line per side?

My apologies for the noob style questions...but its the only way Ill learn.

    Thanx for any help

    Nic

  5. Where did you wire it into so the light changes with the car lights? Mine is on as soon as you turn the key, the good thing is you can't tell the light it on during the day though so it doesn't bother me, just wondered for in the future if I do it again.

I used the dimmer control wire in the radio's wiring loom, I tapped into the wire in the extension harness and went from there. maybe add the option to the install guide you have already put up.

  6. nice updates, makes life in the starlet even better with those stuff.

Thanx mate, ya the cup holder and the rev counter are badly needed...

Good update dude! 5dr N/A starlets FTW !!!!!

The whole built kinda reminds me of my Starlet (althought I haven't done anything new to it since I got the Paseo.. )

cheers mate, I decided to mod my 5dr after seeing that there aren't many done up 5drs, to me its a chance to be different in my own way.

What rev gauge did you get mate?

Also if you have any problems fitting it I've wrote a guide, it's in the tech section.

    Hey,

I got a Spec R 52mm smoked tacho off ebay, I will add photos on monday

it does the job and didnt cost very much.....it will do any way until get the defi 80mmm version in the future.....

Ya I used your guide as a starting point but wired mine up slightly different, it now dim's when I switch on the car's lights

nice project, cooling panel looks great lad!

    thanx mate, much appreciated

Ah I have a new design for the cooling panel on the way and then it will look even better and ill paint this one matt black.

  7. Alrite folks,

Its been a while since I updated the page, so here goes.

    Rear discs conversion parts

At the moment the biggest update to the build is that I am after buying the basic parts that I need to convert the starlet to rear disc brakes.

    disc.jpg

I bought the parts last Thursday and they arrived on Tuesday morning, so far Ive only looked at one side of the set but the discs are like new almost. similar story with the pads, unsure of the make though so will probably get sum aftermarket pads.

The calipers had some surface rust and dirt on them, a good going over with a wire brush and their good to go now id say, the piston on the one i checked seems nice an free.

    My plans are as such for the conversion are to hold off till March or april and get the following;

Maybe get some 3g rear 10 grooved discs,

I'm thinking either Sard or Project mu pads

And steel braided from either Dave B or TT

Rite on to the smaller stuff

I've Sound deadened my 2 front doors in an effort to reduce the rattles and improve the sound quality of my radio.

It did work infariness, but I need to do the other doors now, will add photos of this when I find what camera their on.

Optional extra cup holder and Rev Counter

I saw an Optional cup holder on ebay and bought it kinda on impulse, fitted it on Tuesday looks cool, I like it.

Also I got a 52mm rev counter for myself as I've been wanting one for a while now.

Also I fitted a full set of Reflet Rear light clusters a few weeks back, will post up pics of these when I clean the car and get a nice day for photos.

  8. Something like this would have to be done?

    skirt.jpg

    Thats not bad

But I was thinking of sumthing similar to how the front looks, Bare with me...

I mean cut the rear of the side skirt similar to this but instead of fixing that piece to the door (I assume) leave it off altogther, then either fill the exposed gap in the skirt with fibre glass to where it meets the body or plastic weld a piece of plastic in there and then shape it to suit.

IF done well I think that it could really suit the 5dr starlets

by the way that is one sweet starlet...is that 70 local to you??

  9. Hey mate

I own a 5dr ep91 and plan on doing the glanza body work conversion also,

as far as i can tell the only needed alteration to the whole thing is to mod the sideskirts around the rear doors as Dub seven has said.

If you do complete the conversion Id love to see some pic's mate,

  10. So, would this mani be getting rid of the cat?

I would say that it would be best if this mani didnt automatically get rid of the cat...for several reasons

If the mani automatically got rid of the cat, then this would have to come off for evryones mot tests and such.

best imo if thie mani were to stop sumwhere between the o2 sensor and the cat

  11. Possibly be able to get a picture of mine tommorow morning, mine are paseo dials with standard bulbs painted red with glass paint. So basically orange with red needles.

    cheers mate

    ya that would be great

I tried blue glass paint also but i wasn't very impressed in the results ( the light was very weak), maybe the paint was too dark.

ya I wanna paint the needles red. been having a nose at the spare gauges I got, should be able to remove needles and gauge faces and mount the led's behind the faces I'd say.

  12. hey everyone

I recently got a set of starlet dials in a breakers and I want to mod them a bit(I'm using a spare set so

I can take my time with it),

I would like to change my illumination to a blue LED kinda colour.

I was thinking of looking into fitting some led's into the actual body of the dials ( I mean more leds and therefore a brighter and more even result ) instead of the less then brilliant led bulbs.

Now I want peoples opinions and interior photos if you have em of those of you who have added gauges and or changed the colour of your dials so that I can get an idea of the colour and look that I could expect to achieve.

thanx in advance for any help

  13. hey, i mite be interested depending on price and final design.

    here's my opinions

1; i think that a system that is fitted by cutting and welding a flange on to the existing system would be best suited.

2; possibly 4-2-1 system as this may provide a good even power band as said earlier.

here's a photo of my stock system,

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn166/n...s4/DSC00898.jpg regardless of the final design I think that the mani should end somewhere near the cat, this would seem like a reasonable connection point to me at least

    What do you guys think??

  14. Well I don't have any experience when it comes to the different manifolds but I have used exhaust wrap on my ep, here's ny experiences

    Pro's

1; After I wrapped my exhaust you could catch the manifold and exhaust up to the cat with your bare hand, so is effective IMO in reducing underbonnet heat.

2; handy if using an open (apexi style) airfilter

3; can tidy an otherwise tired looking manifold even if its the original

    Con's

1; the stuff is made of fibre glass and the stuff goes everywhere when your installing it.

2; youalso need to buy steel lock ties in order to secure the wrap in place.
