We really changed all this dramatically with out areo work and with some very precise mods. The thing holds the road and gives great feedback. Handling mods are a very beneficial mod on the ep91 and 82 the complete opposite to the ae101 which surprised me.

What precise mods did you do that helped the most?

  2. UPDATE time, or lack of.. In August/Sept I was over in Europe/UK for a holiday, oh what an experience! Miss it everyday.

Right now the car is doing exactly what I bought it for, daily duties. I do have a LSD gearbox that I'm waiting to get checked out before I use it. I can't imagine parts for this if the box isn't good will be easy to get here.. so I'm not sure what I'll do. The current box has a very very sad third gear.

Whilst I'm waiting for the gearbox to be checked out, I did remove the charcoal canister and pop a uni flow valve in its place. I have an idea that in it's place, I'll put an oil catch can there.

    Small update:

As you all know the weather has been shit across the UK for weeks now and when your trying to do electrical work they dont go together very well haha!

So I've been behind my glove box and I've tidied up the horrendous wiring from who ever butchered into it previously as there was multiple splicings into the loom for voltage connections just left hanging and all sorts,  as you can tell by all the red cuts of wire in the foot well must have been almost 15-20 wires just hanging.  So i cut them all down and electrical taped the loom up to stop any wires shorting out.  I have cable tied and tidied a few wires and control units back under the dash to stop rattling and give me more room.

So the ECU and Plug and play harness is in at the moment.  Plans for this weekend is to put in the bosche knock sensor on the block and plug it into the ecu loom,  I will also be doing the ID1050x wiring loom this weekend if all goes to plan and get that connected into the ECU.  The ID1050x injectors have also been put into the fuel rail ready cant wait to get them running as you can get a super smooth idle mapped into them that you can't do with the denso models available.

I will also be taking off the intake manifold this weekend and attaching the New TPS sensor and will also be sorting out the LINK 4 bar MAP so should be a busy weekend.

Apart from that clocking out for now updates coming soon car needs to be running with in a week!

Hey man, where did you get the plugs that connect to factory ECU wiring plugs? When I go the Link route, I'd like to do that so I can always go back to factory ECU if need be.

Just FYI your EBC won’t be able to stop boost creep. If it’s running into fuel cut without an EBC, you’ll still have the same problem. They can only raise boost from base, they can’t lower it..

Completely understand that, but for now I'd like to make sure I've got the vac wiring correct before doing anything else.

EDIT: I also want to make sure it's not free boosting. Worst case I can get my mechanic to check over it too :)

  5. Hey guys,

I've installed a Gizzmo EBC to stop the over boosting I am getting now that my EP91 has a 2.5" exhaust. Question is, on the stock wastegate actuator it looks like there's two vac lines, I've connected the EBC to the vac port that's on the actuator itself. What do I do with the second line? I assume I just block it off.

    Cheers!

  6. Wow, a month later I'm sick AGAIN, not a good time of the year for me..

Anyway, on Saturday I took her out for her second trackday, however I only did two sessions before having to stop because I was getting too unwell :(

The car performed admirably, the starlet went into lip mode on the first lap and would then only hit .5 bar of boost, shit it was close. I suspect since the 2.5" exhaust it's boost creep and cutting out.

    Here's some pics:

Yes that to me looks like an OEM LSD Gearbox. It has the lsd outside of the box on the drivers side, standard gearboxes do not have this.

Be warned that you will need to source a shorter drivers side driveshaft as they are shorter because the lsd pokes out the side. These drive shafts would have came with the car which had the LSD box fitted but can be quite difficult to find.

Cheers dude! I did realise the drive shafts are different, but did not realise they may be next to impossible to find here.

  8. Welcome! That's one clean looking Starlet you have there :)

Best to check yourself as I am not 100% sure, but Engine should be around 3.2L (at least my EFTE took that much) and the gearbox (Manual) is around 2L

Hopefully this link works for you: http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/CastrolRetailNzl/

I haven't personally replaced the gearbox oil myself, but for the engine oil, I get a 4L bottle of Castrol Magnetec and after dropping the oil and changing the filter, add 2L in and then start checking the dip stick. You don't want to be over filling the engine with oil.

  9. Probably a little late now.. but I own a 2002 blob eye WRX (non-sti) that's been modded with the following:

    -VF30 (replaced the factory TD04HL)

    - STi Pink injectors

    - STi intercooler

    Full dyno tune.

I bought this car knowing it had far too many owners before me (5+) but I took  the gamble and got quite lucky. I'd say it really depends on the service history + how the car has been treated.

I'd put a lot of love into my Scooby and have quite a reliable and very fun car to drive.

In New Zealand, we get the JDM imports, so they'er all tuned for 100+ RON petrol and up until recently, the best fuel available in my area was BP 98, so for us, a re-tune is the best thing to do.

  10. Hey guys,

I'll be making the journey from New Zealand to England in August for about 6 weeks, 3 of them will be on a tour around Europe and I was wondering if there would be any Trackdays/Evetns UKSO would be going to? It would be great to see some of these clean Starlets I keep seeing here :)

    Cheers!

Wheels are finally on! They aren't perfect, but close enough.

I took the car back to get it's WoF, but it failed once again due to the ABS light not working. Thankfully it was just a blown bulb.

It desperately needs a wheel alignment and then I can look at what I want to do next.
