You raising your limit aswell Rich? well, I'll let you be the guinea pig and you can tell me how you get on with it ;) On another note, is the 5EFHE head a straight fit and will it give much of an increase?

I wont be at JAE ... but if those valve springs still happen to be there by the time I need them, I'll buy them off you ;) And what needs doing as far as the rev limit is conernced, I read about something about take apart the ECU and change something inside, but that all sounds a bit dodgy

That's the same as saying you could also have an FTE in yours too Joz, but you have your reasons I'm sure, I'm guessing insurance cost is the main reason? I want to do something different for now, I haven't seen anyone really go mad with the 4EFE, though I'm sure it's been done? But I'm sure FTE will come in the future. ;)

Right, well I am using two of those one way valve things, because my mani came with a bit of pipe and the one way valve, so I use the second valve as a "joiner" and another bit of pipe so that the pipe is long enough to reach the mani. It works fine, so I think it's ok

Well 6200 is the limit now, raising it to 7000 would be nice, I doubt I'd want to go past 7500 though, don't want to risk anything. I think the FTE rods would be the easiest option, assuming they're the same height as the FE ones. All of this is a long way off though, it probably wont be until next year when I get serious about modding the 4EFE, but learning is the only way forward. Either that, or get someone else to do it, which takes all the fun away.

Thanks for the detailed answer as usual Joz ;) And as for other mods, I'd have others of course, I wouldn't bother with cams until I've got the breathing sorted, which would include intake mani/air filter/exhaust mani/exhaust, and the fueling, bigger injectors, and some sort of management, and like you said, better valve springs - as I'd probably want to raise the rev limit aswell. (If I'm talking nonsense here then do tell me)

I'd hope so, it feels so crap above 65... And thanks I'll look into the brakes mine aren't working too well at the moment, there's a bit of play in the pedal before anything actually happens ;) I think it's just down to worn out pads, I don't think they've been replaced for a very very long time.

Has anyone changed the camshafts on their 4EFE? I plan to eventually, so was wondering what's out there. I'm guessing most people have heard of "Kent", I had a look on their website and they make cams for 1.3 Corolla, so I'd assume it's the 4EFE. Alternatively, would swapping a 4EFTE/5EFE/5EFHE head make any difference? But I suppose the FTE and 5E are the same as the 4EFE? Also, what else would you need to effectively run new cams, would you need some sort of piggyback?

Are the Corolla injectors any different to the Starlet ones though?

Well it seems to work fine without one, I did the bolts up pretty tight, both surfaces (inlet mani and throttle body) looked clean and smooth, so I don't think there should be any problem? I'll get a gasket anyway, but for now it'll be ok without one, yes?

yep ;) ALOT more responsive, really brings it alive, pulls alot better. Sounds slightly better too. Next things will be sorting out the brakes, and suspension, and rear ARB.

None at all lol... also, what the hell is the circle plastic thing on the bit of pipe that comes from the MAP to the mani?

Took a while, but I didn't remove the fuel rail or get under the car like some people have done. Forgot to disconnect the battery though, DOH! Will it make anymore difference resetting the ECU now? But it still feels much more responsive, sounds better, nicer to drive. The only thing is, it makes you want to floor it all the time... ;) I don't have a throttlebody gasket though, it will be ok without one right?

The a non turbo Starlet is easily fast enough to put you in a wooden box. It's quicker than alot of people's first cars. Also, it's not just buying the car that costs money, there's insurance, tax, and the cost of maintaining the car and replacing parts. With the amount of money you've got, you're pretty much sorted for an N/A and being able to get a glanza kit on there ;)

Get yourself a UK spec N/A Starlet. You wont get insured on a Glanza V and insurance will be sky high on an S because it's an import. You can always do a glanza body conversion on the N/A, and there's a fair few things you can do to the N/A engine too.

Steam clean, but make sure things like the air filter, battery, etc... are properly covered up.

You could try finding an SR that's had a front ender...

a rubber gromet on the throttle cable? I think I've got that nevermind I know which bit you're on about, yeah I've got it along with some nice bits of pipe and connector thing

Well I want to fit it tommorow morning, I just want to know if I have to order anything else before I go and fit it also, did yours have a load of fucking oil inside? Fucking breather pipes ;)

question - do I need to get a new inlet mani gasket before fitting? Or can the old one be used? (my rolla mani came today )
