1. All of the electronics back online. Also took the time to reqire a few things and clean up a lot of dodgey wiring.
2. Decided now was as good a time as any to make some handling tweaks. Installed a rear sway bar and built a front splitter
3. Had to replace every bearing. Every little area was filled with mud. The car was dismantled to a bare shell. I then resprayed the interior and cage.
4. As some of you may know. We've had some severe flooding in qld Australia during January which saw a friends house and our 3 race cars under 12m of water for 3 days. Its been a hell of a clean up effort and most things are only now starting to get back to normal and Ive had some more time to show the starlet some love. It was a tough decision wether or not to scrap it or rebuild it. This was my first car and has been with me for 7 years. I couldnt just see it rust away
5. Thanks for the kind words guys. Just waiting on a headgasket still and a surge tank to finish the rebuild. Yeh mate heres a couple. Its very very close. Hows your beast going these days? Thanks mate. Their 13x205x60. 13's are dirt cheap compared to the same tire in larger diatmeters and work well at the drags with that kind of side wall.
6. wow another year has passed Been busy circuit racing a lot. The cars done extremly well but Ive blown a few more headgaskets and also the GT28. Running a HKSGTS turbo now. Also got another magazine feature this time in FF&R magazine. Just stripped the engine one last time. The blocks been o-ringed and im updating the fuel system a little then it should be all good for another solid year of racing. Below photos not taken by me. Im really happy with how they turned out though. The cars actually pretty rough being a track car that we re-sprayed in a shed but it looks alright here. FF&
7. You mentioned a while back that you were getting it mapped in feb? Did it get tuned? How'd you go. Looking good so far. Its going to be interesting seeing when that turbo boosts. Love the wheels too. I would have gone 205's with the treads though. Your going to need all the traction you can get
8. Yep, timed of CAS that has had most of the teeth ground off. Wasnt overly hard to wire. That dyno sheet is from the old setup. After that it ran more gas and made more torque and 300hp at the wheels. Then I changed turbo and picked up 1200rpm in response. It now makes power much sooner than even the nitrous graph there. Cant wait to up the boost and run gas on it.
9.

High compression 5e helps. So does nitrous. I wouldnt call my new turbo that big though.

Coil pack wasnt an issue. I run an autronic cdi uni so it was piss. I did it when I first built the engine so I cant say if there were gains. I just saw two other GTs blow the dizzy apart at 220hp atw and thought i better be safe.
10. Just been browsing your forums again. I actually forgot what a unique and entertaining forum you have here . Anyway I stumbled across my old thread and thought - Wow, probably should update this. Had some highs and lows since I last posted here. Redline Gti Skid pan day out at lakeside last year. Painted the rims. Changed to a smaller turbo. Picked up over a 1000rpm in response. Made 210hp @15psi. Had to pull huge amount of timing. Still pinging at 11 degrees. Maybe smaller intercooler or bad batch of fuel. Also Changed to a new inlet with std runners and larger plenum, new plastic
11. Thanks guys. The inlet mani was a custom job that sloster in NZ made. Ive since sold it back to another member in NZ. Still using bog stock gearbox with stock driveshafts. Just ran an 11.2sec run @ 124mph late last year with a 1.6sec 60footer. The wheel bearings were worn out when I pulled the car down end of last year, but other than that everything is sweet. Other changes, The car is now painted the new swift colour, kashmir blue and we added a purple zyelic pearl. We painter it in my friends shed. It came out pretty well considering. The car also now sits on 13x5.5" rims with 205/60/13 To
12. Small update. Ive ordered some new slicks and new rims for them so while their being made I thought Id keep myself busy with something cheap and easy. Who needs a motec dash? My new 15 L.E.D. 7-stage shift light.
13. About 12 hour sanding by hand then about an hour of buffing with tile grout and water, then just some autosol paste and elbow grease. The pic was right after I finished. I put some extra effort in for the photo shoot. Im not usually that anal about it.
14. It was machined out of a block of alloy then pressed in. yes its hard as fook. I can feel every rotation of the gearset through my spine, but it does it job. We've got a metal lathe now so ill be turning up some mounts for the sides soon, but Ill be pressing suspension bushs into the middle to allow a little movement. The cars now fitted with these puppies + some custom spec springs. Their ZEP's Tossing up whether or not to set the car up for circuit. I need semi slicks + and oil cooler + re-tune for circuit and I need new slicks+ diff for drag.....ahh decisions
15. Good idea! maybe cracked pistons will make more power. Does anyone know what psi the stock FPR runs. Im running 300hp atw on stock FPR. I recently overpowered the walbro pump so Ive added a bosch 044 as well and think ive overloaded the pissy return line and upped the fuel rail pressure which has thrown out my maps. Cheers Harry
16. Nice jamie, Im glad you guys bought this car. The cars had the shit torn out of it on many forums but I really like it. I was building my car quite similarly when I bought my starlet, before I went all out race. Still remember getting excited seeing this at autosalon before I even got my license. Cheers Harry PS Are you still following through with your plans on that shell. Ive got a few ideas for it if youve changed your mind. Give me a call
17. I was using stock starlet 14" rims cut and 8" bands welded on with custom offset and MT 20x14x8 slicks. They were very heavy but I was running 1.7 flat 60 foots. Im now running second hand (old) MT 22x15x8 tires on crappy 6inch wide 15" rims. They pull the tire in to much so its not utilising the 8inch of tire there. Their also old and very hard. I needed to go 22's as I was coming on the limiter @ 119mph with the old slick. Soon ill be buying some new 24" slicks and using a corolla 4.11 diff. Ratios should be approx same but much more tire on the road. As for the diff, I was using a 1.5 trd
18. Im actually a nurse. Starting another degree in paramedics later this year. Im just sick of paying top dollar for people to screw me over so I do as much as I can myself now, wheel allignments, gearbox rebuilds, the nitrous install, im just learning as much as I can. Thanks for the comments. Also last race meet went well, ran consistant 11's all day long. I accidently changed from 3rd to 2nd gear on one run. The datalogger showed that it went to 9500rpm. That was the first run of the day and it ran flawlessly the rest of the day so I dont think I did any damage
19. Little update. I made a gauge pod for the centre of the dash. I couldn see my gauges properly down low when racing and i thought this would give a better viewing angle. First I made a template out of paper for the middle of the dash then cut out some mdf. Then I Moulded the raise in the dash with some fibreglass. Then I drilled the holes for the gauges and glued the face plate to the fibre glass. I then stretched a t-shirt over the whole thing and glassed it. I used some 56mm pvc pipe and cut it at 15 degree angles to face the gauges towards me then boged around it so it all looked smo
20. Heres a vid of the 12.2 with 240hp atw on my old slicks and full weight. Yes that lovely free rev is me. I was ment to dump the clutch to test traction but forgot 12.2 Video Right click and saveas. Cheers Harry
