So I'm having problems with the speedometer and odometer on my tercel.
The speedo needle bobs up and down whilst driving.
Generally, the odometer works fine however it gets stuck when 4 digits (thousands) have to rotate ie. it does not work properly when turning from say 70,999 to 71,000.
Cable is fine....any idea what the problem could be?
Secondly, is the speedo from a diesel tercel interchangeable with that of a petrol tercel?

forgot to add taht I have also purchased some sparco low profile wipers...however these will not be fitted until we get cooler weather (probably september).

Small update....ordered remix front bumper, grill (+ badge lol) and glanza rear bumper from Toyota.
Parts will take some time to arrive (i'm guessing July). Car will go to the body shop as soon as all parts arrived.
Plans are that the bumpers will be colour coded.
Currently on the look out for fog lights.
-
I had 96 spec fogs in but only two of the three securing holes lined up, 98 spec fit perfect although my 96 ones never moved once they were in
Gary
Thanks again
-
Will only the fog lights from the facelift version of the glanza fit? Or will the 96/97 ones fit as well?
-
96/97 spec without optional front lip
98/99 spec with optional front lip
the 98 spec also had crystal spot lights.
Hit the nail on the head....exactly what I was after
Cheers

What are the differences between the pre-1998 and post-1998 glanza bumpers? Also which category do 1998 cars actually fit in to? Also are cars termed "kouki" all post 1998? Also what does kouki mean?
-
Although my wheel arch liners didn't fit onto bumper properly
Was it a big problem to solve or was it minor?
-
What does one need to buy to convert a standard ep90 n/a to a remix front?
Is it a straight swap or is there a need for modifications?
-
@liam a few people have said spray the bumpers up but i like it like that, and loving the grey bumper theme so keeping it as.
Prefer them like that too
Were they difficult to fit or just a straight swap? (did you have to buy other clips and so on?)

@ azad heres an update for you
@ baz those 14 inch wheels are tremendouse fun, they are defo dangerous though in wet and greezy conditions and there is almost no grip
but if you can chuck a car about this wheel and tyre combo are amazing for learning how to drift in the dry, ive scared a few people on here, so they can attest to what i mean.
saying that though i munched though the two front tyres in three weeks, hence the 15s that you see on the pics bellow.
they look nice but cursed the slip in performance from stepping that inch up(back to hitting that wall at 70)
been meaning to update this for a while now, il show use the parts and the dilema i have.
i managed to source a set of hubcentric spacers but still need to find the correct bolts to use with them
keeping the car on the road.
since I've bought it ive fitted
four rear shoes
two rear top mounts
different sets of tyres
and four new shocks
and other bits and bobs
this is how she stands at the moment 13000 miles since bought later.
now ive got these parts for the build in what ever direction i go.
the first part will be raising the limit this is fairly simple and il be selling 7 & 8k ecu and valvespring kits to open up 4efe engines
ive got itbs and a blue to get them mapped when we go further down the line.
ive fitted my hotshot 4-1 header+ Fujitsubo Legalis R System
fitting the mani and exhaust made such a nice sound and i get a little vteck type power kick at 5600ks just after the limiter shuts out all the fun.
fitting this and reverting back to the standard airbox have given me a nice dose of power. it made me seriusly think about what i was doing once i started kaining it around the hills. ive held off getting any graphs or tunn after
bouncing power to weight ratios about my head, and after disectiong a few ep82 n1 cars got me to thinking
a starlet sr weighs 920kgs
an ep82 soleil weighs 760kgs
you can trim thwme down to 700kgs which is close to a quarter of a ton lighter than the this sr.
so im thinking about selling up with the sr and continuing my current na project on a lighter more focused na ep82.
ive unearthed a lot of tuning info on the 4efe and 5efhe engines.
the highest recorded output in japan on a 4efe is 143ps
the highest recorded on a 5efhe was 157ps i have the cam + engine specs for this.
after a lot of reading this engines are very tunable and i know what direction to go down to get more power.
Nice car
Correct me if I'm wrong....bumpers are front remix bumper (unsprayed) with glanza fogs...rear glanza bumper (also unsprayed)...right?

I win
Thanks mate
So from the pics it appears that there is no bulbs for turbo etc (since glanza S has no turbo obviously)....am i right?
-
Sorry should rephrase that
All Starlets
Anyone have a pic of glanza S dials?
-
I would say glanza a would fit aswell but never seen it done
To be honest glanza s ones would be harder to get than other ones purely because they are rare and rarer to find them breaking
I have paseo dials for sale if your interested
Gary
The problem is i'm in malta mate....too expensive to ship most stuff...thanks anyways
-
Right ok mate that's clearer now,
I had a 1997 ep91 sportif which had no revcounter, I switched to dials from a CD model and they worked perfect with no modification or wire swapping and had a rev counter.
Paseo or SR dials would fit but would require wire swapping
Gary
Any idea of glanza s dials?
Anyone have pics of glanza S dials as tbh i have never seen...
-
Thats how all Glanza's should be !!!!! ^^
Indicators on the right FTW
It's an n/a not a glanza
-
Hi mate
First off, you say it's a 2e engine so I'm guessing you have a 80 series starlet? Correct me if I'm wrong
If so the paseo and glanza dials are all 90 series shape so they won't fit
Hope this helps
Gary
It's a 1998, EP90.....i know in the UK they are all powered by the 4e-fe but those imported here were powered by the 2e engine....
here's a pic of the dials
As you can see it's different from UK spec...steering wheel is different and even the indicator stalks are opposite way round
-
So I've got a 1998 n/a and it has no rev counter....i was hoping to fit one however i have been reading loads of info.
In some posts some members are stating that Paseo rev counters are a straight swap, others are saying that you need to swap some cables. I am also confused as what to look for (glanza, paseo, cynos etc etc)
So I have 4 main problems.
1) Which of these will actually fit a 1998 n/a?..(cynos, glanza s...another problem is here we use metric(kms) and not imperial units...so this limits me to JDM)
2) which is a straight swap?
3) My car has no rev counter...it is powered by a 2e engine (not UK spec)...will this be a problem?
4) Are there blank connections for the rev counter as there are for the clock (the actual clock which states teh time)?
-
This backbox isn't loud at all.
It is the sportiest of tones you can find for the n/a starlet.
Joz
Thanks mate
-
One final question...is this exhaust extremely loud?
-
-
I need a pic of a TTE exhaust (whole back box) off an SR, to be able to look for one which is similar.....also if anyone knows the diameter of the tip it would be very helpful
Anyone?

Your indicator and wiper stalks are also the opposite way round to the UK Starlets.
I think all JDM starlets have them opposite way round....not sure though. Are they the same in glanzas?
